The name or term "Dropshot" refers to more than one character or idea. For a list of other meanings, see Dropshot (disambiguation).
Dropshot is a Decepticon from the Classics portion of the Generation 1 continuity family (by way of Universe).
So this is what genuine surprise is like!

In a race of fighting machines, Dropshot is a fighting machine. He's always the first to throw a punch or shoot a missile, and he doesn't care if he's the only one actually fighting. He believes that anyone who doesn't retaliate is a coward who deserves the beating he gladly dishes out. He never needs a reason to fight, nor does he care about the success or failure of his team. All that matters is having someone to hurt. For obvious reasons, the other Decepticons avoid him unless they can channel his anger towards some Autobots.[1]

Fiction

IDW Generation 1 continuity

Dropped-shot.

Dropshot infiltrated the American military forces early on in the Decepticon offensive, posing as one of their artillery vehicles. His mission was to monitor the military and report back all he heard to Megatron. Through him, Megatron learned of Spike Witwicky's infiltration mission and the European Union's nuclear strike. All Hail Megatron #5 When the Autobots eventually returned to Earth, Dropshot was finally unleashed. He transformed and turned his firepower against his "hosts". All Hail Megatron #11

A bit wound-up after having to sit and spy on the humans for so long, Dropshot eagerly attacked them. Shrugging off the humans' attempts to fight back, Dropshot asked aloud who could possibly stop him at this point. As if on cue, Kup emerged from the water behind him, having been dropped into the river by Skywarp earlier.

The next time Dropshot was seen, Kup and Colonel Witwicky were sitting on his defeated remains, having a nice conversation. All Hail Megatron #12

I'm a conundrum wrapped in missile launchers.
  • Decepticon Dropshot (Voyager, 2008)
    • Series: Classic Series
    • Accessories: 2 missiles, rifle, clear brown Earth-style Cyber Key
Part of the second wave of Universe Voyagers, "Decepticon Dropshot" is a redeco of Cybertron Cybertron Defense Scattorshot, transforming into a multiple-launch rocket system which kinda resembles TOS-1 Buratino. The halves of the (non-firing) launcher end up on his arms in robot mode. In either mode, inserting a Cyber Key in each half reveals a new weapon: the right side has a slide-out double spring-loaded missile launcher which ends up on his left robot arm, while the left has a flip-out non-firing blaster barrel which ends up on his right robot arm. Both key-activated weapons feature fake handles which end up being "held" by his hands in robot mode, although the missile launcher on his right arm needs to be slid forward for him to be able to reach the deployed blaster's handle. He also comes with an extra long brown hand-held rifle that can be mounted in tank mode thanks to his Mini-Con-compatible Powerlinx plugs.
His box photo shows an opaque-brown Earth Key with tan paint. The toy actually comes with an entirely unpainted transparent-brown Earth Key.
This mold was also used to make Universe Overload and Timelines Flak.

Notes

  • Dropshot's toy shares identical Tech Spec numbers with the Military Patrol, which includes his Micromaster namesake. His bio portrayal as overly combative is quite similar to the Military Patrol's description, so Hasbro likely intended the two Dropshots to be one and the same. However, Universe Dropshot's only fiction appearance is in a continuity where the Micromaster Dropshot was seen first under odd circumstances that probably preclude them from being one individual. This sort of situation has happened before.
