Top 3 Transformers Shows

  1. Transformers: Prime (2010-2013)
  2. Beast Wars: Transformers (1996-1999)
  3. Transformers Animated (2007-2009)

Why I think Transformers Prime is #1

Transformers: Prime's storytelling was phenomenal. I loved how Transformers Prime stretched out its ideas and concepts across multiple seasons instead of having season-centered story arcs. I also liked the interesting, new takes on characters like Soundwave, Wheeljack and Smokescreen. I also loved how the show developed its characters: Ratchet, Bumblebee, Smokescreen, Starscream, Dreadwing etc.

I also loved the show's aesthetic. I am not fond of the movie aesthetic 'nor Animated's: but when they are combined, they make the eye-candy that is Transformers Prime. Fantastic job on the designers part.

Transformers Prime does have some flaws, I will admit, but it is the best example of Transformers storytelling to date. Here's why I disagree with many about Beast Wars taking the place.

Why I think Beast Wars is #2

While Beast Wars had some great storytelling and fun characters, and everything I listed above pretty much applies here, it failed to come through with a lot of characters. Transformers Prime only wasted Cliffjumper, Breakdown, and Hardshell in terms of characters, but at least the former two's deaths served a purpose to the overall plot. Beast Wars killed off characters like Scorponok, Terrorsaur, and Airrazor for no darn reason. Why? To sell toys? That's what people are using to excuse the meaningless death of characters?

I thought that was the problem with the G1 cartoon, and the reason why some people didn't like Prime.

Everything else about the show was rather entertaining, though.

Why I think Animated is #3

There's Prime, there's Beast Wars, you run 50 miles, and find Animated. While the storytelling was okay, this show was mediocre at best. The aesthetic was awful, and the animation was incredibly choppy at times. It's very ironic how the show is called 'Animated' but couldn't 'animate' to save its life. The characters were annoying as hell (Optimus, Bumblebee, Bulkhead, I'm looking right at you), and there were so many characters they couldn't manage to thoroughly develop them all. Not that I would ask that from any cartoon, but I can only think of a handful of characters out of the multitude of characters that we got a peak into that were developed in the right ways.

Animated was not very good. Armada and Beast Machines are their competitors for me at this point.
