This article is about the 3-part episode that made up season 4 of the original cartoon series. For the comic in the IDW Generation 1 continuity, see Rebirth.
We could be HEROES, just for one day.

Season 4 of the original cartoon series consisted of a three-part episode titled "The Rebirth". It introduced dozens of new characters, and conversely, provided a sense of closure for the show as a whole.

It was originally meant to be a five-part episode (ala "Five Faces of Darkness"), but due to waning interest in the Transformers at the time, Hasbro reduced it to a three-part episode instead, thus leading to the series' at-times rushed feeling and pacing, complete with barely any character development for the majority of new characters (some don't even have a line of dialogue).

On the other hand, despite the usual glitches and oddities of its animation studio, The Rebirth is noted for having some of the best fluid animation sequences of the original cartoon.

In 2001, predating the releases of the full seasons, Rhino Entertainment released the three part set on DVD and VHS, along with a DVD release of "The Ultimate Doom".
