Woodrow "Woody" Burns is the free-spirited younger brother of Charlie Burns. Both an inventor and an adventurer, Woodrow has a keen interest in the mysterious and paranormal, spending his time hunting for evidence of aliens and various other cryptids. His relaxed, risk-taking personality often sees him at odds with his more straight-laced brother, leading to many an argument, but at heart they're brothers.

Leaving the family home on Griffin Rock, Woodrow began traveling the world in search of evidence of aliens, visiting such far-off places as Dwarma and Ecuador. He developed Deep Earth Scouts, designed to hunt underground, and eventually one of them turned up something interesting under Griffin Rock. He paid his old home a visit, though the DES unit he'd retrieved malfunctioned on arrival, causing a minor uproar by damaging property until he shut it down. After reuniting with his brother's family, he revealed what he was after, but Charles forbade him from using the town's driller. Woodrow attempted to use it anyway, and was joined by Cody Burns as the out-of control machine took them underground. Trapped in a cavern, the pair were menaced by giant spiders, until Chief Burns arrived with the rest of the team to rescue them. Woodrow was despondent at the discovery that the clues he'd been following were ordinary things and not evidence of aliens, until Chief Burns revealed that the rescue robots his team had been working with were, in fact, Rescue Bots from Cybertron. After a cave-in separated Woodrow, the Chief, Cody and Chase from the others, Woodrow and the Chief began arguing and almost missed the oncoming lava. Woodrow was impressed by Chase's driving in getting them away from danger, and grilled the Rescue Bot on Cybertronian biology as they explored another tunnel. When the Chief wanted to go on alone to check the path, Woodrow decided to go with him, leading to another argument. They were soon reunited with the rest of the team, however the only way out was up through Mount Magma. Woodrow hit on the idea of causing an explosion using an energon deposit and riding the shockwave up and out of the crater, and the plan actually worked. Back at the fire station, Woodrow packed up and left, reinvigorated in his search to explore Earth. What Rises Above
