The Creation Matrix (not to be confused with the Matrix of Leadership from the G1 cartoon) is an artifact of great power which holds within it the essence of Primus. It is traditionally carried by the current Autobot Leader, who can use it to, among other things, grant new Transformer life and purify evil.
(While the original Generation 1 media portrayed the Cartoon's Matrix of Leadership and the Comic's Creation Matrix as different items with different abillities and origins, later continuity has tended to mix and mush them together into one item. See Matrix of Leadership for more details)
