The name or term "Galvatron" refers to more than one character or idea. For a list of other meanings, see Galvatron (disambiguation).
Galvatron is a Decepticon from the Age of Extinction portion of the live-action film series continuity family.
Pal, you picked the wrong car to terrorize.

The crowning achievement of Kinetic Solutions Incorporated, the man-made drone code-named Galvatron was originally intended for use in the United States military, hunting down and dispatching any rogue Transformers that had evaded human capture. Reverse-engineered from the scavenged remains of Megatron, the drone adopted many of his features during its construction. In reality, however, Megatron's consciousness had survived his destruction, and bit by bit the Decepticon leader fed his captors the technical information they required. In time, KSI had unwittingly built him a brand new body ripe for the taking. Galvatron's lack of a true spark makes him almost invincible, as does his ability to split apart into a cloud of Transformium and avoid taking damage. With all of Megatron's memories and abilities, Galvatron conspires to turn KSI's technology against its creators, forging a new Decepticon army under his command.

He's gonna show the world: "Baby I'm back!"

"Alright guys, this scheme to create our own aliens totally won't backfire! Honest!"

Though believed dead, Megatron actually survived the battle of Chicago though he remained a non-functioning and immobile head. Megatron's head was collected by Joshua Joyce's KSI, and used to produce man-made Transformers. Learning of KSI and Cemetery Wind's alliance with Lockdown in order to obtain a Seed, Megatron silently bided his time while he fed KSI with the information they needed to mass-produce Transformers. KSI played right into Megatron's hands, unlocking the secrets of Transformium and building many new Transformers. Joyce oversaw the production of five prototype Galvatrons, but since each Galvatron was developed directly from Megatron's own source code, they all took on a twisted, sinister appearance and were subsequently recycled. Joyce grew increasingly frustrated with the project, since he wanted the final product to have Optimus Prime's friendlier, more heroic appearance. Eventually, Megatron's "chromosomes" infected the latest Galvatron prototype, imbuing the formerly mindless robot with independent thought and life. Although Galvatron eventually planned to steal the Seed and take control over KSI's drone army, he pretended to be a remotely controlled drone for the time being. Only Brains, who was forced into hard labor by KSI, knew the truth about Galvatron, but he was more than happy to sit back and watch him annihilate humanity rather than share this information with his captors.

"You have no soul!"
"That is why I make a great lawyer!"

After the Autobots left KSI after an attempted raid, Harold Attinger ordered Galvatron deployed alongside Stinger to apprehend Optimus. Upon activation, Galvatron pretended to obey KSI's remote control, but showed several signs of free will during the operation, including firing weapons unbidden and showing a reckless disregard for civilian bystanders. Galvatron separated Optimus from Bumblebee and the other Autobots, and battled him. When Optimus declared that Galvatron had no soul, Galvatron retorted that he had no fear. It was this verbal exchange that alerted Optimus to Galvatron's true nature, but before the fight could be resolved, Lockdown arrived and easily dispatched his prey. Galvatron was retrieved from the field by a furious Joyce, who declared Galvatron's signs of autonomy as critical flaws.

I'll get you next time, Gadget, next time!

Brains revealed Galvatron's scheme to Cade Yeager, who called Joyce and alerted him of the danger Galvatron posed should he obtain the Seed. Having ended his deal with Lockdown, Attinger handed over the Seed he'd received in exchange for Optimus. Though efforts were made to tighten security, Galvatron activated on his own as he bellowed his name, then granted life to KSI's other Transformers. Together, Galvatron and his new minions trashed KSI's lab as they searched for the Seed. However, Joyce was able to flee the facility with the Seed, escaping both Galvatron and the CIA. He attempted to rendezvous with the Autobots and Yeagers in Hong Kong. Galvatron ordered his new Decepticons to split up and find Joyce, and his troops were able to shoot down the Autobot ship just as Joyce was about to hand over the Seed. The Autobot ship crash-landed in the nearby Wulong Valley, leaving only Hound and Bumblebee to protect the humans and the Seed. However, just as the two were about to be overwhelmed, the other Autobots returned with the Dinobots in tow, quickly turning the tide of battle and slaying most of the Decepticons, much to Galvatron's chagrin. Galvatron was only saved by the timely reappearance of Lockdown, whose attack drew Optimus's attention. With his plans temporarily stymied, Galvatron declared his rebirth and swore revenge against Prime as he left for parts unknown. Age of Extinction

Part of the second wave of Age of Extinction: Generations Voyager Class toys, Galvatron transforms into a 2012 Freightliner Argosy. Given the impossible-to-recreate nature of his on-screen transformation he is a complete shell-former, with his truck mode folding up solely along his back and calves. As with Evasion Optimus Prime, he has a different paint scheme than seen on his packaging, with less paint applications on his body and weapon. His truck mode is also a darkish grey, rather than the black seen in the movie footage. His cannon can either be held like a gun, or fitted on his hand in a way that appears as if it is coming out of his arm.
Galvatron's package is the only packaging in the Age of Extinction toyline thus far that neglects to mention what his alternate mode is called. The only mention of Freightliner being involved with his alternate mode is in the tiny copyright information section of the box.
The Movie Advanced Series version adds some additional paint applications for a more screen-accurate look, most notably, a darker face with yellowish-red eyes.

Notes

"There are plenty of Autobot shoulders for you. Ultra Magnus' shoulders are MINE!"
  • Concept art for Galvatron in Dark of the Moon was created by Massive Black artist Bruno 'Nox' Gore. Whether he was intended to be an upgraded Megatron or a separate character entirely is unknown. [1].
  • Interestingly (perhaps to avoid movie spoilers), the toy-bio for Galvatron on the Voyager packaging does not mention anything about Galvatron, but rather how the Autobots face new adversaries after the Battle of Chicago.
  • Age of Extinction sees Frank Welker make his on-screen debut as the live-action incarnation of Megatron, having previously played the role in tie-in video games. Welker of course voiced the original Megatron, and also voiced Galvatron in the original series (taking over the role from Leonard Nimoy), meaning he gets to reprise three roles at once!
  • Because of Joshua Joyce's original intent of making him a new version of Optimus Prime, Galvatron combines not only elements and characteristics of previous incarnations of Galvatron, but also those of the Optimus Prime clone. Whilst retaining characteristics of previous Galvatrons, this one in particular most resembles the Prime incarnation of Nemesis Prime, having also been built by humans to use as a weapon, having the same or similar alternate mode as Optimus but in different colors, and having a huge amount of endurance (for Nemesis, it's due to being remote-controlled; for AOE Galvatron, it's because he is made of Transformium and has no spark).
  • Hasbro's website says that Galvatron's chest contains a "vortex grinder", like Devastator's. This could be why Optimus Prime's sword shattered inside of Galvatron's chest.
  • Galvatron's head bears a striking resemblance to Beast Machines Megatron's head. Whether this is intentional or a coincidence is unknown.
