Launched in 1987 with a mere 12 costumes, San Diego-based Disguise Incorporated (acquired by Jakks Pacific in 2008) now puts its in-house design team to work producing costumes and costume accessories based on a variety of topics, including a large assortment of licensed properties.

In 2010, Hasbro and Disguise signed a three-year contract that gives Disguise exclusive rights to produce costumes based on "most" Hasbro brands, including Transformers, G.I. Joe, and My Little Pony.
