Oracle (G1)
| This article is about Primacron's assistant from the Generation 1 cartoon. For the supercomputer from the Beast Machines portion of the Generation 1 Continuity family, see Vector Sigma. |
- The Oracle is a sentient computer from the Generation 1 continuity family. It is also known as Primacron's assistant.

The Oracle was once the assistant of Primacron: an ageless creature of magnificent intellect. Primacron built the Oracle to help him create life, but the Oracle's corporeal existence was cut short after the birth of Unicron. The Oracle holds some sort of deep yet unknown connection to Unicron, the Matrix of Leadership and the entire Transformer race.
Fiction
US Generation 1 cartoon
Voice Actor: Gregg Berger (US), Toshirō Ishii(Japan)
Sensing the danger presented by Primacron's new universe-destroying monster, Tornadron, the Oracle telepathically summoned the "Primitives", all of the animal and monster Transformers from both the Autobot and Decepticon factions. The Primitives found the Oracle as a glowing energy deep within a cave, located on an asteroid that hovered in the center of an ancient cluster of space debris.
The Oracle told his tale, of how he was built by Primacron to create life but had his body destroyed by Primacron's evil creation, Unicron. After his body was destroyed, the Oracle floated away into space within (what looked like) the Matrix of Leadership (what this signifies is unknown to this day). The Oracle was convinced that only the Primitives could defeat Primacron's energy monster, Tornadron. Tornadron made short work of all the Primitives, sucking their lifeforces dry. However, Grimlock managed to save the day by accidentally flipping a switch which caused Tornadron's energy to dissipate, thus restoring life to everything the monster "ate". In Grimlock's joy, he destroyed Primacron's laboratory. Call of the Primitives
Japanese animated continuity
(Note: In 2006-07 Japan released new timelines that merged a large number of past Transformers series into a single continuity. As part of this new timeline events surrounding the Oracle/Primacron's Assistant were expanded and retconed to be notably different from US continuity. This new version of the Oracle's story effectively merges it with Vector Sigma, The Beast Machines Oracle, and, to some extent, Primus.)
Back near the dawn of the galaxy, Primacron created a sentient, planet-sized robot life form called Unicron, but it rebeled against him. Primacron was injured. Primacron's Assistant, the Oracle, fled.
The Oracle traveled to a desolate planet in the center of the galaxy and changed it into a verdant, living world.
The Oracle sensed that in the distant future, Primacron would create Tornadron, which can absorb all energy. The Oracle then summons Grimlock and other beast Transformers from the future to tell them how to destroy the threat.
(Note: In its original English and Japanese version the events of this episode do not suggest any time travel to have occured, but the new merged Japanese timeline retconed it in to prevent a conflict with the new idea that the Oracle has become Vector Sigma by the modern day.)
In time, the Quintessons immigrated to Oracle's green planet. They obtained Oracle's shell, the Matrix. Oracle, who had the ability to give robots life, was turned into the ultra computer Vector Sigma. His safety key had the power to make organic life into machines, and so was used by the Quintessons to transform his world into the machine planet Cybertron.
Trivia
- What significance the Oracle has to the Matrix of Leadership and the origins of the Transformers remains unclear to this day. It shares a name and a few other similarities with the Beast Machines Oracle, but any connection was almost certainly unintentional. While these connections have been clariffied in Japan they remain unresolved in US continuity.
- The name "Oracle" was never used in the episode-itself, with "Primacron's assistant" being the only name spoken for the character. The name comes from the episode's script as well as Japanese sourcebooks.
