MY EYES! MY EYES! THE GOGGLES DO NOTHING!

A star is a mass of incandescent gas, kept hot by a natural nuclear furnace at its center where small atoms are fused into larger atoms at a temperature of millions of degrees. The word sun is generally reserved for stars which have planets gravitationally associated with them. Since Transformers typically spend their time on planets, suns are much more common in their adventures than bare stars. Such suns are often orbited by planets, asteroids, and giant eggs that look like asteroids.

Earth's sun

Residents of the planet Earth, called humans, refer to their sun as "The Sun", or sometimes "Sol" if they are being annoying.

Decepticons often seek to make use of it -- and other stars -- in various ways such as tapping into its power, hurling things into it, or just plain blowing it to smithereens. The Autobots usually stop them in time, but it's almost always a close call.
