Gacha is the trademarked name TakaraTomy uses for their gashapon products, largely because their arch-competitor Bandai owns the "Gashapon" trademark in the United States.

Gacha and Gashapon

What is gashapon?

Gashapon is a type of machine that functions like a gumball machine or a toy dispensing machine. After depositing a coin in the machine, the crank is turned and the capsule is dispensed in a few seconds. Much like blindpacking, the toy you receive is completely random. However, gashapon capsules may have transparent parts, since the machine provides the randomization rather than the packaging. Unlike the cheaper toys seen in most American capsule toys, gashapon toys are usually small figures with high quality plastic and painting. Because of these reasons, they're often sought by collectors. The figures are mostly based on Japanese manga and video games.

In regards to Transformers, however, it was very rare for Transformers figures to be placed in Gacha machines. The first (and only, so far) time it ever happened was for the Arms Microns.

In addition, there were special clear variants of these molds with the suffixes MX (for the Autobots) and TC (for the Decepticons.
