The Autobots battle the Concurrence's newest creation to save Prowl's life.

Synopsis

Analyzing the information provided by Bluestreak's energy wave tracker, Jazz is able to track down the origin point of the energy surge that was causing Prowl's disembodied, dimensionally-displaced spark to destabilize. Following his directions, a team of Autobots strike the location: a research facility run by the evil human organization, the Concurrence. There, the Autobots discover that the Concurrence, allied with Swindle, have created a gigantic creature made from synthetic electrum, and powered by energy from Prowl's spark, channeled through a subspace node within its body. The monster promptly attacks, and the Autobots discover that despite being artificial, its electrum "skin" still proves capable of deflecting their lasers. Jazz quips that research into synthetic electrum is a hot subject right now, and reveals that he has been oufitted with that technology as well! Sending the mental command, Jazz converts his "Argent" armor into artificial electrum and charges the giant, bringing it to its knees. Grimlock tosses Jazz his sword, and Jazz extends the electrum to surround the blade, stabbing the giant in the back and destroying the subspace node. Bluestreak then blasts the giant to oblivion.

With the giant destroyed and the facility now under Autobot control, the team is contacted by the Overdrive of the parallel world Prowl's spark now resides in. Overdrive confirms that Prowl's spark has stabilized, but that it will be too dangerous to send it back across the dimensions unprotected. Chip Chase allows his consciousness to be transferred back into his human body so that the Binaltech shell can be sent into the other dimension and Prowl's spark can finally be installed within it. All signs point to the true Prowl finally making a return!

Meanwhile, under interrogation, Swindle smarmily pleads innocence, explaining that the electrum giant was a purely human innovation, and that Doctor Arkeville had just found Prowl's spark by accident; Swindle was just giving them advice. After a brief time of peace, it looks like the Decepticons are on the move again, and the Autobot have no time to waste in tracking them down and stopping their derivative Binaltech experiments. Jazz just sighs and wonders who he should give his tickets for a concert the next day to...

Notes

  • This chapter of the Binaltech story was printed on the packaging of the Argent Meister Binaltech toy. It was released simultaneously with Bluestreak and "Unfinished Business, Part 1", seven months after the last toy and story chapter, and was the first non-exclusive release since Skids (who came with "Darkest Hour") nearly three years beforehand.
  • Electrum previously appeared in the original The Transformers cartoon episode "The Golden Lagoon".
  • Though not explicitly stated, Arkeville's discovery of Prowl's spark in the other dimension is probably related his exploration of subspace back in "Binal Time", when he was searched through the sub-dimension to find a means of bringing Nemesis Prime to life.
