Shouldn't he be bigger?

Also known as the "Beast of Time", Hytherion (ハイセリオン Haiserion) is a hyper-dimensional creature of immense power and destructive potential, capable of traveling freely throughout universal streams. Composed of the dimensionally-resonant material Alternium, Hytherion's natural sustenance is time itself. In particular, the beast has been known to savor devouring the origins of worlds and universes, a tendency which has seeded fear of it in countless universes where it is known as the "Origin Eater." Normally invisible and intangible to lower-dimensional beings, Hytherion is opposed by the enlightened protectors known as the Alternity, an evolved form of Cybertronian life. It is prophesied that the evil Megatron will lead the creature to destroy the Earth.

Hytherion is known by the TransTech to be a force of nature, a cog in the great multiversal machine whose function is to consume weakened and damaged universes, preventing their chaos from spreading further into the multiverse.

Fiction

Alternity

The Protector agent Cliffjumper was dispatched 2.4 billion years into the past to prevent Hytherion from feeding on a galaxy at the moment of its birth. Though the Alternity were unable to enter this time period themselves, Cliffjumper braved the dimensional turbulence and fired a marker weapon at the beast, which allowed the Alternity superweapon known as the "Sword of the Heavens" to strike at Hytherion through time. As a result, the eater of origins was banished from the time period. Ace of Swords

The Optimus Prime of Primax 109.0 Beta was recruited by his alternate self into the ranks of the Alternity in response to the imminent threat of Hytherion descending upon the Earth of that universal stream. From Here to Alternity

Hytherion was drawn to the Earth by the lurking transwarp ship of Megatron, who had studied the beast for some time and had lured it across the dimensions by broadcasting a temporal code that enticed it. Though the Convoy Corps of the Alternity responded swiftly to the threat against the defenseless world, Earth's destruction turned out not to be Megatron's goal. Rather, it was a ruse to get Hytherion within striking distance and enslave the creature, overwriting its higher functions in a gambit to ascend to the same hyper-dimensional state as the Alternity. Thus established as the great beast's master, the auto-avatars that Megatron had seeded on the world below sprung to life. To Mega Therion

The Alternity battled Megatron by concurrently destroying large amounts of his auto-avatars in hopes that his control over Hytherion would loosen and the beast's consciousness would gain the upper hand. The swift destruction of 667 of the avatars did indeed lead to Megatron being corrupted by Hytherion's mind, turning him into a mindless raging "Megatherion" who blindly attacked his former tools, the Planicrons. The Planicrons struck back and shattered the Megatron Aggregate group consciousness, presumably freeing Hytherion from Megatron's control. Alternation

TransTech

The defeat of Hytherion left the beast inactive and caused the chaotic cross-dimensional ripples caused by the destruction of Primax 207.0 Epsilon to go unchecked, prompting Optimus Prime to form the Convoy to try to deal with it. Rook - Axiom Nexus News: Investigative Journalist

Ask Vector Prime

Vector Prime considered Hytherion to be a major danger, but noted that the beast was not truly evil as it was a force of nature with no malice behind its actions. At an unspecified point of time Logos Prime encountered the Hytherion, which drove Logos mad. It originated in Cymond 772.0 Beta, a weapon used by the Terminators against the Originators at the end of time.

Hytherion devoured the remains of Primax 504.0 Gamma after its destabilization at the hands of Unicron.

During the Universe War, Hytherion targeted worlds that Unicron's antics had left vulnerable: the Alternity and the Autobots of Cloud World fought it back. Ask Vector Prime

Notes

  • Hytherion's name appears to be a portmanteau of the mighty Titan Hyperion from Greek mythology and the Greek root word "therion", meaning "beast".
  • In both TransTech and a couple of answers of Ask Vector Prime, Hytherion is referred to as the Hytherion. This doesn't necessarily cause conflict with the Japanese fiction, as Japanese lacks a definite article equivalent to the word "the" to begin with.
