Stepper is an evil Autobot Targetmaster wannabe from the "Shattered Glass" continuity family.

Stepper coveted his brother Ricochet's sweet Targetmaster partner, so he made one of his own. But Nebulon is not a real partner, but an extremely low-tech drone which Stepper passes off as a sentient partner through masterful ventriloquism. He also teams up with Drift to ward off interdimensional intruders.

Fiction

Shattered Glass

Sgt. Stepper's Lonely Heart's Club Band

Long ago, Stepper helped thwart a coup against Optimus Prime orchestrated by his brother Ultra Magnus. As Stepper and Jetfire held Magnus down, Optimus Prime ripped off the would-be usurper's face. Invasion Stepper encountered a group of Go-Bots and engaged them in battle. During the fight, Nebulon was destroyed and Stepper was sucked into a dimensional rift, which brought him to Axiom Nexus. There, he met with another incarnation of his targetmaster... One that wasn't a puppet at all, but fully intelligent 'bot! The two teamed up, and Stepper soon found himself being goaded by Nebulon into committing all sorts of crimes.Stepper's profile

The pair earned themselves the number eight spot on Cybertron's most wanted list, and fell in with C-81 and his criminal crew. The group planned to create an interuniversal gate to run an "off-the-books" travel agency, but on their last heist the law caught up to them. Stepper and the others attempted to flee from the scene of the crime, but were held up when they drove into Seeker-Shinai. They were taken into custody and brought to the offworlder maximum security prison. Inside, Stepper became increasingly nervous to be surrounded by so many hostile looking inmates. His anxiety became apparently justified when Oilmaster started stirring up trouble, but the situation was diffused when Packrat came along. These two joined the group, and together they escaped from prison.

When they exited the building, they found the entire city offline. Taking advantage of the darkness, they made their way to the city's underground tunnel network. There, they encountered Lift-Ticket, Burn Out and Spy-Eye. When the trio fled, Stepper assumed them to be part of the O.Z.S.A., and feared they would report the criminals' whereabouts. As Cybertron's most wanted delved deeper underground, they encountered hostile Waruders and engaged them in battle. Stepper and Nebulon blasted a few of them, but they were forced to flee once more when they became overwhelemed by sheer numbers. Salvation came when not only did Lift-Ticket and Burn Out show up again, but so did General Optimus Prime and Sergeant Hound. All of them fought the Waruders together, with the battle finally ending in negotiation. The Waruders were led off-planet, and Stepper was allowed to go free because of the part he played in halting the invasion. Cybertron's Most Wanted

Toys

Timelines

Shattered Glass Stepper is a redeco of 2010 Transformers Deluxe Special Ops Jazz. His Targetmaster partner Nebulon is a redeco of Universe Nightstick, which originally came with Deluxe Cyclonus. Stepper transforms from an orange sports car to a robot and back. Stepper has deployable speakers in both robot and vehicle mode,[1] and his rifle is an update of Jazz's Classic Pretender weapon. The speakers can also combine with his rifle via clips to form a super rifle, or they can be used on any other clip-compatible Transformers toy.
This mold was also redecoed into heroic United Stepper and Shattered Glass Longarm, and the mold's alternate head was used to make Treadshot. It was also retooled to make Generations Wheelie and Timelines Kick-Over, and was intended to be retooled into Generations Nightbeat, who ended up as a retool of an entirely different sculpt instead.
Stepper was available exclusively in a five-figure box set, packaged with Packrat, Battletrap, Megatron, and Oilmaster.

Notes

  • Stepper originally appeared in BotCon 2012's "Invasion" comic book. Dan Khanna intended this to be an appearance for Longarm, but his art was instead colored like a variant of Ricochet for reasons unknown then. Three years later, Pete Sinclair revealed this was intentional, having planned the Stepper toy for three years.[2]
