The Transformers

[edit]
Aquafend
Deluge
Sold individually in the ninth and final year of the original European/Australasian-market Transformers toyline (which used the packaging style and new faction symbols used in Generation 2 despite not being part of Generation 2), the Aquaspeeders are a squad of racing vehicles, each with a bellows-fed water squirting "cannon". The water-shooting assembly is functional in both vehicle and robot modes, becoming oversized hand-held weapons in the latter. The toys do not need to incorporate the water-shooters in their vehicle modes, but they do look less impressive without them.
Each robot's hood/chest is covered in color changing paint, turning pale when hit with warm water (or being left out in the sun), and returning to normal colors once it cools off. There is an issue where the color-changing portions may turn permanently pale if stored for long periods in overly-warm places, like an attic. So like... if you haven't had that happen yet, don't do that.
The Aquaspeeders were redecoed into the US-market Generation 2 Color Changers that same year, but that transition was a bit convoluted. Two of them were given the names of two of the Aquaspeeders (but not the ones they were redecoed from), the third one was given the name of one of the Stormtroopers (which were never released in the United States), and the fourth one was given the name "Gobots" in order to secure the trademark for the toy franchise of the same name Hasbro had acquired just two years prior after buying out former rival Tonka... and then the two that were not given the names of Aquaspeeders were given those same toys' bios, while the two that were given the names of the two Aquaspeeders were instead given the bios of two of the Stormtroopers. Confused yet?

Generation 2

[edit]
  • Aquafend (Aquaspeeder, 1994)
  • Deluge (Aquaspeeder, 1994)
  • Jetstorm (Aquaspeeder, 1994)
  • Speedstream (Aquaspeeder, 1994)
The Aquaspeeders were re-released the following year as part of the first wave of the European/Australasian Generation 2 toyline. Like all of the re-released product this year, there are no notable changes to the toys themselves, only new packaging.
