Beast Wars Collection Card (ビーストウォーズコレクションカード) is a set of Beast Wars cards published by Takara in 1997. They were sold in mystery packs of ten cards and each bag contained one special card. Despite the cards being marketed as Series-1, no follow-up series was produced. There was, however, another card series called Beast Wars Collection Card produced by Irifune concurrently with Takara's product.

The set consists of sixty-nine cards divided in fifty-six character cards (キャラクターカード) and thirteen special cards (スペシャルカード). The character cards are further divided in twenty-four battle robot cards (戦闘ロボットカード) numbered #001 to #024, six beast cards (ビーストカード) numbered #025 to #030, twelve story cards (ストーリーカード) numbered #031 to #042, five extra cards (エクストラカード) numbered #043 to #047, eight army cards (軍団カード) numbered #048 to #055, and one card numbered #069 that very conveniently is a checklist (チェックリスト). Cards #056 to #068 are the special cards, and what makes them special compared to the others is that they're holographic. Also, the army cards are divided in Cybertron and Destron sets and all four cards of each set together form one image. With the exception of the checklist card, all cards are assigned a red Cybertron color or a purple Destron color.

The text on the back of the cards varies per type of card, with the character card containing short bios, the story cards summaries of the Beast Wars season 1 episodes, the army cards interactions between members of the same faction, the first seven special cards interactions between members of opposing factions, and the rest character data.

Although the series is otherwise focused on the 1997 Beast Wars fiction, cards #066 and #067 together feature Convoy and Lio Convoy meeting in advance of the debut of Beast Wars II in 1998.

Gameplay

[edit]

Each card has a red bar depicting hit points (ヒットポイント) and a yellow bar depicting damage points (ダメージポイント) printed on the back. Within these bars are three big numbers, which are the sum of a selection of Tech Spec stats. The first number is the sum of strength, intelligence, and speed, the second number is the sum of rank and endurance, and the third number is the sum of courage, firepower, and skill. To use the cards for play, two people play rock paper scissors. The winner of rock paper scissors is assigned the hit points and the loser the damage points. The players simultaneously select a card from their hand and show it. Whoever has, when comparing the three big numbers, at least two times a bigger number than the opponent wins.
