Blackthorne Publishing somehow managed to produce Transformers comics in the US and UK while the Transformers license was still held by Marvel Comics. Because they used gimmicks (like 3D), they could claim their products had no overlap with the Marvel Comics, and purchase a separate license from Hasbro.
- Blackthorne produced 3 issues of The Transformers in 3-D in 1987. The third issue was to be the first part of a multi-part story, but no further issues were ever made.
- They also produced a 4-issue The Official How to Draw Transformers.
- Blackthorne also produced a four-issue Battle Beasts comic book. Copies are marginally easier to find than the [[wikipedia:{{#if:|:}}Holy Grail|{{#if:||Holy Grail}}]].
