Carmen saw her husband off to work at the Hoover Dam hydroelectric plant as usual on the 4th July, but later learnt that the plant and its workers had been taken hostage by a man wielding a powerful handgun. Rushing to the scene with her daughter, Maria learned from a TV news reporter that the man holding the plant hostage was none other than Ricky who unbeknownst to her was being controlled by one of Bombshell's cerebro-shells. They witnessed the space bridge appear, bringing with it a giant energy-leeching drill, then a battle between the Coneheads and the Aerialbots. As the gestalt Superion stood victorious, he was confronted by Ricky Vasquez and Megatron, but upon seeing her father Maria ran through the police lines towards him. This distraction was enough to break Megatron's control over Ricky and the Decepticon leader retreated with the Instecticons. Before the police took him away for questioning, Ricky apologised to Carmen for not being able to make it to the fireworks that evening as he'd promised. Aerialbots over America!
