Category talk:Subgroups
I've had this discussion in IRC, and I'm gonna have it here... basically, I feel that we might be overdoing the Categories in regards to Subgroups.
I don't think it's neccessary to make a Category for all of three entries (like, say, the Triggerbots) or for single-series combiner teams (like Dinoforce), espeically since those groups will have a page of their own as well that ought to list the members. It seems a bit redundant for such a small thing. I mean, once we put up ARTICLES for Throttlebots and Triggerbots et all, would not THOSE fall under "Subgroups" and still show up in the Subgroups Category page? The function is served.
Transmetals, Pretenders, Fuzors, Head/Target/Power/Action Masters, those are all pretty broad groups (especially once you take into account Nebulans and other "partner" characters). And some groups/teams/factions that are cross-series, like Dinobots and Constructicons and Aerialbots and Predacons, beautiful, put those up as Categories. But, well... Throttlebots? I don't think that's really Category-worthy. --M Sipher 05:51, 18 May 2006 (UTC)
I agree. We will have to come up with a way to decide which subgroups "deserve" a category, but I don't think that every subgroup needs one. Especially since, as Sipher says, those subgroups will (presumably) have *articles* about them which will list all members. So... how should we make the distinction? Groups with six members or less do not get categories? That way we could drop all the combiners, for example. --Steve-o 21:13, 19 May 2006 (UTC)
I'm afraid there's going to simply HAVE to be a lot of judgement calls. (Oh boy.) Coming up with a black-and-white set of rules is going to be about as arbitrary as a judgement call ANYWAY.
"Six or less" doesn't sound too bad as a starter. This will still leave cross-series teams like the Constructicons and Dinobots and Aerialbots, but that's fine. Part of the whole "Category" thing --to me at least-- is to be able to give a big list of stuff people might not be familiar with alongside what they are. --M Sipher 21:55, 19 May 2006 (UTC)
Looking at it... shouldn't this fall under the "Transformers" Category rather than directly under "Characters"? I don't think any non-Transformers are gonna end up here.... --M Sipher 09:52, 21 May 2006 (UTC)
Personally, I think Category:Transformers is extraneous. As I commented there a while ago, I think all of the categories currently within the Transformers category should be moved up a level to Category:Characters. Many of our character categories contain both Transformers and non-TF characters, so I think segregating the TF characters into a subcategory doesn't really serve any purpose. The vast majority of characters on this Wiki are going to be Transformers anyway. --Steve-o 16:46, 21 May 2006 (UTC)
- Fair points all. --M Sipher 20:53, 21 May 2006 (UTC)
