Club BK, occasionally formatted without the space as ClubBK, was a virtual world browser game developed by Designkitchen to promote Burger King. It had multiple promotional events tying into the live action Transformers movies. It shut down in November 2011.
Gameplay
[edit]Club BK was a standard virtual world game. Players could customize their characters & rooms, play minigames, and earn the in-game currency called Crowns. There was also a chat system, though it was a 1-on-1 safe chat using a set of pre-selected phrases.
The game's main hub area was a living planet-sized spaceship named Brian, though players could go to other locations and complete quests.
Transformers content
[edit]Players could enter codes included with their Burger King toys to unlock prizes, though the prizes themselves are unknown. There were two known events, one in July 2009 with the release of Burger King's Revenge of the Fallen toys, and one in July 2011 with the release of their Dark of The Moon toys. The 2009 event allowed players to wear a helmet based on Optimus Prime.<ref>{{#if: |""—|}}{{#if: http://www.ericravenstein.com/work/burger-king-club-bk/ |Eric Ravenstein's portfolio|Eric Ravenstein's portfolio}}{{#if: |, |}}{{#if: Burger King Club BK |, "Burger King Club BK"|}}{{#if: |, {{#if: |/{{#switch:{{#len:}}|1=0{{{month}}}|{{{month}}}}}{{#if: |/{{#switch:{{#len:}}|1=0{{{day}}}|{{{day}}}}}|}}}}|}}{{#if: http://www.ericravenstein.com/work/burger-king-club-bk/ ||}}{{#switch:{{#sub:http://www.ericravenstein.com/work/burger-king-club-bk/%7C7%7C11}}%7Cweb.archive= (archive link)|}}{{#switch:{{#sub:http://www.ericravenstein.com/work/burger-king-club-bk/%7C8%7C11}}%7Cweb.archive= (archive link)|}}{{#switch:{{#sub:http://www.ericravenstein.com/work/burger-king-club-bk/%7C7%7C10}}%7Carchive.is= (archive link)|}}{{#switch:{{#sub:http://www.ericravenstein.com/work/burger-king-club-bk/%7C8%7C10}}%7Carchive.is= (archive link)|}}{{#if: | (dead link)}} We know the helmet is from the 2009 event because it is featured alongside Marmaduke, which dates this screenshot to 2010, before the second event occurred.</ref> It also involved a minigame called "Free Mission City".<ref>{{#if: PLAY THE NEW TRANSFORMERS FREE MISSION CITY! |"PLAY THE NEW TRANSFORMERS FREE MISSION CITY!"—|}}{{#if: https://www.seibertron.com/transformers/news/burger-king-starts-transform-your-way-promotion/16277/ |ClubBK|ClubBK}}{{#if: Seibertron.com |, Seibertron.com|}}{{#if: Burger King Starts 'Transform YOUR WAY' Promotion |, "Burger King Starts 'Transform YOUR WAY' Promotion"|}}{{#if: 2009 |, 2009{{#if: 6 |/{{#switch:{{#len:6}}|1=06|6}}{{#if: 22|/{{#switch:{{#len:22}}|1=022|22}}|}}}}|}}{{#if: https://www.seibertron.com/transformers/news/burger-king-starts-transform-your-way-promotion/16277/ ||}}{{#switch:{{#sub:https://www.seibertron.com/transformers/news/burger-king-starts-transform-your-way-promotion/16277/%7C7%7C11}}%7Cweb.archive= (archive link)|}}{{#switch:{{#sub:https://www.seibertron.com/transformers/news/burger-king-starts-transform-your-way-promotion/16277/%7C8%7C11}}%7Cweb.archive= (archive link)|}}{{#switch:{{#sub:https://www.seibertron.com/transformers/news/burger-king-starts-transform-your-way-promotion/16277/%7C7%7C10}}%7Carchive.is= (archive link)|}}{{#switch:{{#sub:https://www.seibertron.com/transformers/news/burger-king-starts-transform-your-way-promotion/16277/%7C8%7C10}}%7Carchive.is= (archive link)|}}{{#if: | (dead link)}} Screenshot of a message that would have been displayed on Club BK promoting the event.</ref>
The 2011 event is even less documented. It took place after a Nerf Super Soaker promotion, and had some form of in-game presence large enough to announce.<ref>{{#if: |""—|}}{{#if: https://www.jessieleeprice.com/#/club-bk/ |Jessica Price's portfolio|Jessica Price's portfolio}}{{#if: |, |}}{{#if: Club BK |, "Club BK"|}}{{#if: |, {{#if: |/{{#switch:{{#len:}}|1=0|}}{{#if: |/{{#switch:{{#len:}}|1=0|}}|}}}}|}}{{#if: https://www.jessieleeprice.com/#/club-bk/ ||}}{{#switch:{{#sub:https://www.jessieleeprice.com/#/club-bk/%7C7%7C11}}%7Cweb.archive= (archive link)|}}{{#switch:{{#sub:https://www.jessieleeprice.com/#/club-bk/%7C8%7C11}}%7Cweb.archive= (archive link)|}}{{#switch:{{#sub:https://www.jessieleeprice.com/#/club-bk/%7C7%7C10}}%7Carchive.is= (archive link)|}}{{#switch:{{#sub:https://www.jessieleeprice.com/#/club-bk/%7C8%7C10}}%7Carchive.is= (archive link)|}}{{#if: | (dead link)}}</ref> The activities section of the website had a printable maze released to coincide with it, but the main content is unknown.<ref>{{#if: |""—|}}{{#if: https://web.archive.org/web/20110626085532/http://clubbk.com:80/assets/activities/ClubBK_transformersMaze.pdf |ClubBK|ClubBK}}{{#if: |, |}}{{#if: Club BK Maze |, "Club BK Maze"|}}{{#if: 2011 |, 2011{{#if: |/{{#switch:{{#len:}}|1=0|}}{{#if: |/{{#switch:{{#len:}}|1=0|}}|}}}}|}}{{#if: https://web.archive.org/web/20110626085532/http://clubbk.com:80/assets/activities/ClubBK_transformersMaze.pdf ||}}{{#switch:{{#sub:https://web.archive.org/web/20110626085532/http://clubbk.com:80/assets/activities/ClubBK_transformersMaze.pdf%7C7%7C11}}%7Cweb.archive= (archive link)|}}{{#switch:{{#sub:https://web.archive.org/web/20110626085532/http://clubbk.com:80/assets/activities/ClubBK_transformersMaze.pdf%7C8%7C11}}%7Cweb.archive= (archive link)|}}{{#switch:{{#sub:https://web.archive.org/web/20110626085532/http://clubbk.com:80/assets/activities/ClubBK_transformersMaze.pdf%7C7%7C10}}%7Carchive.is= (archive link)|}}{{#switch:{{#sub:https://web.archive.org/web/20110626085532/http://clubbk.com:80/assets/activities/ClubBK_transformersMaze.pdf%7C8%7C10}}%7Carchive.is= (archive link)|}}{{#if: | (dead link)}}</ref>
Notes
[edit]- A Bumblebee outfit was also created, as shown on the design portfolio of Derek Dietrich-Muller. While it is likely this released at the same time as the Optimus Prime helmet, there is no known documentation of it appearing in-game.<ref>{{#if: |""—|}}{{#if: https://www.derekdietrich-muller.com/1601-burger-king |Derek Dietrich-Muller's portfolio|Derek Dietrich-Muller's portfolio}}{{#if: |, |}}{{#if: Burger King ClubBK |, "Burger King ClubBK"|}}{{#if: |, {{#if: |/{{#switch:{{#len:}}|1=0{{{month}}}|{{{month}}}}}{{#if: |/{{#switch:{{#len:}}|1=0{{{day}}}|{{{day}}}}}|}}}}|}}{{#if: https://www.derekdietrich-muller.com/1601-burger-king ||}}{{#switch:{{#sub:https://www.derekdietrich-muller.com/1601-burger-king%7C7%7C11}}%7Cweb.archive= (archive link)|}}{{#switch:{{#sub:https://www.derekdietrich-muller.com/1601-burger-king%7C8%7C11}}%7Cweb.archive= (archive link)|}}{{#switch:{{#sub:https://www.derekdietrich-muller.com/1601-burger-king%7C7%7C10}}%7Carchive.is= (archive link)|}}{{#switch:{{#sub:https://www.derekdietrich-muller.com/1601-burger-king%7C8%7C10}}%7Carchive.is= (archive link)|}}{{#if: | (dead link)}} </ref>
