As Project Nefarious reached its final stage, the Initiative moved its mobile base to a location near Crater Lake. There, Carter Newell was wired into the new AllSpark that the secret organization had constructed and seized control from the Initiative board. The base had been tracked there by Soundwave who led the Autobots and NEST to its location. The Initiative responded by unleashing a collection of brainwashed Transformers to defend the base, Nefarious #5 however Soundwave was able to take control of Ravage, located within the Initiative base and tip the battle in the attacker's favor. In the aftermath, Newell attempted to escape with the rapidly-destabilizing AllSpark but was killed. The AllSpark threatened to explode, and was taken into space by Fortress before it could do so.
