DK-2 Guard is an Autobot-allied robot from the Diakron portion of the Diaclone continuity family.

DK-2 Guard is one of the Originators' super-intelligent robot subordinates. Even if he's not being piloted by his Originator commander, he has such a high level of autonomy that he cannot be distinguished from any other Transformer. Excelling in defensive tactics and armed with unparalleled power, strength and armor, everyone feels a sense of relief when they see him around.

In the 1980s, Originator robot DK-2 fell through a portal while driving home on autopilot from a defense mission, and wound up in the Legacy universe, where he joined the Autobots and helped wipe out the Energon Monsters threatening the peace there. Unfortunately for him, the Legacy universe's "Amalgam Effect" restructured his body over time, replacing his unique inner workings with Transformer tech. It didn't have any negative effect on his functions, however, beyond making him prone to fits of passionate emotion that made his face change to have cyber markings. Hearing that G2 Technology could help reverse the Amalgam Effect, he headed towards a universe that had it.

Much later, driving on an American highway, he had a woman in his driver seat, the woman being that universe's native criminal version of Dia Cinders, who had narrowly escaped the Autobots and a bounty hunter. He presented himself as a guard, but she wasn't convinced, having already being tricked by an AI robot that transformed into a car back on Velocitron. DK-2 called for help from a fellow Kronoform hailing from his native universe, Autoceptor. As he wrapped around Dia's wrist, he revealed to DK-2 that the Time Machines were now working with the Autobots and that he had contacted them. Dia was furious at the situation but DK-2 reassured her that the Autobots would take a soft stance, as Spinout and Tigertrack arrived. DK-2 remarked that Dia Burn Out was missing, which Tigertrack explained was because an old friend of theirs was in trouble. The Autobots figured having Mirror Dia's DNA would help solve Dia Burn Out's fusion problem, only for them to find that her DNA was unusable, discovering Dia had extradimensional ancestry from multiples generations, leading Spinout to speculate that her numerous "crimes" were actually her trying to prevent catastrophic events with her pre-cognition powers. Dia confirmed to him she did indeed have that power, but couldn't see much of her own future. Autoceptor revealed that she was descended from the Originators of the Kronoform universe, also explaining why DK-2 was drawn to her, because by that logic, she was DK-2's master. Mirror Dia also revealed that the only thing she could see about her own future was that she would be killed by something big and blue. Hearing this, DK-2 swore he would protect her. "No bio" is to be expected. "No name" is rather more rare.
  • DK-2 Guard (Deluxe Class, 2022)
  • Series: Legacy
  • Accessories: blaster, shield
An add-on for the first year of the Legacy toyline, Generations Selects DK-2 Guard is a black and red redeco of Earthrise Ironhide, who in turn is an extensive retooling of Siege Ironhide. DK-2 Guard transforms into a van similar to Ironhide's original Nissan mode. This toy features a roof piece that converts into a shield in robot mode and can also become a giant four-barreled cannon. For a little extra firepower, DK-2 Guard also comes with a smaller "blaster". Conveniently, this gun can be stored on the underside of the shield, tucking away neatly in van mode.
Similarly to Ironhide, the figure's robot mode feet stick out conspicuously from the van mode's backside, but it is less obvious due to it being the same black color as the rest of the figure.
DK-2 Guard was exclusive to Hasbro Pulse in the United States, Canada, and the UK.

Notes

[edit]
Unfortunately not a guardian for Diddy's Kong Quest.
  • DK-2 Guard is based on the original 1982 Diaclone No. 2 Onebox Cherry Vanette toy that was colored red to become Ironhide when the mold was used in the first year of the original Transformers toyline. This Diaclone coloration was eventually released in 2008 under the Transformers brand as an e-HOBBY exclusive for the Encore toyline. (Unlike Guard, this release was characterized as a variation of Ironhide, dubbed "Ironhide Protect Black".) Guard's alphanumeric designation, "DK-2", is derived from the ID number of the Diakron release of the Diaclone toy. Fellow Generations Selects toy DK-3 Breaker would follow a similar theme. (The "missing" DK-1 would have been a red Sunstreaker, which had already been produced two years earlier as Generations Selects Spin-Out.)
  • In case you are wondering, Guard's deco layout does not precisely match how Shattered Glass Ironhide was coloured in IDW Publishing's 2021 comic series, but all things considered, it is reasonably close.
