Transformers: Dark of the Moon — The Score is an album featuring the original instrumental music composed by Steve Jablonsky for the live-action sequel Transformers: Dark of the Moon. The CD of this score was planned for release by Warner Bros. on the same day as Dark of the Moon's rock album, but was delayed as Michael Bay did not have time to give the CD his approval. Jablonsky discussed an August CD release, with a special edition to coincide with the Blu-ray.<ref>Steve Jablonsky's e-mail to Christopher Knight.</ref> The digital download version, complete with booklet, was released on iTunes on June 29, 2011. This album contains roughly 59 minutes of the movie's score.

Complete Score Cue Sheet

[edit]

As with most film scores that are released, the score album is heavily edited - music truncated, mostly omitted to some highlights, usually chronologically incorrect and often several smaller cues combined to form larger tracks, or even with some tracks being "suites" specifically recorded for the album - into an album that the producers feel will make a better listening preference for the average consumer. Although the complete score is not available to the public with no known plans of it ever being released, the cue listings for the complete film score were found at Hans-Zimmer.com apparently linked to highly private collectors. They are as follows.

  1. 1m0 - Logos (0:20) - The opening titles. This track was very likely composed around the alternate version of "The Fallen Falls" composed for Revenge of the Fallen, with which it plays in the opening.
  2. 1m1a - Main Title-Moon Mission (4:55)
  3. 1m1b Lost Signal (2:13)
  4. 1m1c - Astronauts Return (1:11) - As humanity celebrates the moon landing's success, Sentinel Prime lies comatose in the bowels of the Ark, and we get the title.
  5. 1m4 - Earthly Conflicts-Discovery Chernobyl (3:33)
  6. 1m5a - Optimus Arrives at Chernobyl (0:50) - Optimus arrives to drive Shockwave away.
  7. 1m5b - Laserbeak Chernobyl Attack (0:28) Laserbeak kills Alexei Voshkod.
  8. 2m7 - Accuretta Interview (1:48)
  9. 2m7a - I Need To Matter (0:32) Brazos and Sam manage to come to an agreement.
  10. 2m8a - Director Of National Intelligence PT 1 (0:45) - Director Mearing arrives at NEST.
  11. 2m8b - Director Of National Intelligence PT 2 (1:00) - Mearing walks through NEST HQ to get to Optimus.
  12. 2m9 - The Ark (1:57) - Mearing Discusses the significance of the Ark with Optimus.

  14. 2m12 - Car Collection (0:35)
  15. 3m13 - Finding Sentinel Prime (1:17) - Ratchet and Optimus rescue A comatose Sentinel from the hold of the Ark.
  16. 3m14 - Megatron In Africa (1:55) - A weakened Megatron spearheads Decepticon operations from his Namibian camp.
  17. 3m15 - Kill Human Collaborators (0:40) - Laserbeak infiltrates the Singer household.
  18. 3m18 - Paying Your Dues (0:23)
  19. 3m19 - I'm His Girlfriend (0:24)
  20. 3m21 - Meet Deep Wang (1:40)
  21. 3m22 - Hemorrhoids (1:15)
  22. 3m23 - Wang Out Window (0:48) - Laserbeak interrogates Jerry before "suiciding" him.

  36. 5m38b - Russians Find Pillars (1:06)
  37. 5m39 - Freeway Chase (3:36) - The Autobots battle the Dreads on the DC Parkway. Note that this is one of those fun instances where the original session is extensively edited to better suit the film. "Battle Glorious Suite" is edited into the first half at least twice (see) below, the final "denouement" third of the piece is omitted from the film, and there are a rather daunting number of Pro Tools tweaks and cheats used to match the piece more closely with the action.
  38. 5m40 - Robot Standoff (0:46)
  39. 5m41 - Traitor Sentinel (3:17)
  40. 5m42 - Megatron In DC (3:10)

  44. 6m48 - Prepping Xanthium For Liftoff (1:42)
  45. 6m50a - Goodbyes (3:21)
  46. 6m50b - Shuttle Liftoff (1:40) - Starscream destroys the Xantium during takeoff.
  47. 6m50c - Shuttle Explodes (0:50) - Sam, Simmons and Mearing mourn the Autobots' apparent demise.
  48. 6m50d - Tracking Dylan (0:55) - Dutch tracks Dylan as he and the Decepticons head for Chicago.
  49. 7m51 - Dylan Arrives With Pillars-Seal Off City (3:07)
  50. 7m53 - Sneak Into City (2:27)
  51. 7m54 - Autobots Return (2:30)

  55. 8m58 - Autobots Storm Chicago (1:57)
  56. 8m59 - Osprey Assault (1:47)
  57. 8m60 - Diving Into Chicago - Setting Up Rocket (1:53)
  58. 8m62 - Trapped In Bldg - Falling Down Side (2:11)
  59. 8m63 - Driller Attack (3:32)

  67. 9m72 - Victory (1:54)
  68. Sentinel Suite (3:16)
  69. Battle Glorious Suite (5:55) - The basis for many of the film's action themes, including the infamous "Mind Heist" analogue and the reprise of Sentinel's theme during the climax. However, "Battle Glorious" is perhaps most notable for its usage in the film, where it was tempo-dropped by a factor of -6.25% and extensively edited and mixed with "Freeway Chase" for the buildup to the DC Parkway battle. It is heard while Sam chats on the phone with Mearing and when Crowbar transforms.
  70. Driller Suite (2:05)
  71. Death and Return Suite (4:42)
  72. Conspiracy Suite (3:48) - The basis for "Main Title - Moon Mission" and "Lost Signal" in the opening. Repurposed as "Dark Side of the Moon" for the released score.
  73. Chicago Suite (7:44)
  74. Our Final Hope Suite (3:42)
  75. Communicating With NEST (Alternate) (1:44)

Notes

[edit]
  • Steve Jablonsky had assistance with additional music from Tom Gire, Pieter A. Schlosser and Todd Haberman.<ref>From Hans-Zimmer.com</ref> Similar to the score in Revenge of the Fallen, one of Linkin Park's songs—"Iridescent"—was again interpolated into the score.
  • In the very beginning of the movie, a snippet from "I Rise, You Fall" from the previous score is played before Dark of The Moon's "Dark Side of The Moon" is played.
  • "It's Our Fight" features a bridge that is quite similar to composer Zach Hemsey's "Mind Heist", better known on the interwebs as the "Inception trailer music".
  • For whatever reason, the opening melody of "Battle" is a near-perfect match to Depeche Mode's "Black Celebration".
