Synopsis

In a universe where the heroic Autobots battle the evil Decepticons, Menasor and Superion are locked in a fierce battle. In the midst of this fight, Optimus Prime notices a strange spacial distortion, out of which emerges the murderous Grand Scourge, who seeks out the Matrix and its owners. His presence confuses most of the people present, including Megatron and Ratchet, who notes the stranger's resemblance to Optimus. Menasor cares little for his identity and attempts to smash the intruder, but is surprised when Scourge avoids his blow and strikes back with his Matrix Breaker sword, disassembling Menasor into his components in one blow.

With the individual Stunticons vulnerable and ripe for the taking, Scourge very forcefully combines with them, much to their chagrin and fear, and attains a greater form. Realizing the danger this dark combiner possesses, Superion leaps into battle with Grand Scourge. A perplexed Optimus Prime suddenly hears a mysterious voice, who warns that Scourge is a hunter of Matrix-bearers across the multiverse, and that his path of destruction throughout the universes has to be stopped. Superion ends up being of little challenge to Scourge, and both Megatron and Optimus swear to fight against this overwhelming force.

  • This comic is bilingual, written in Japanese with corresponding (mangled) English.
  • Although this comic originally appeared to take place in its own brand-new continuity, the original Japanese text, in keeping with Unite Warriors toy names, utilizes Japanese names such as "Convoy" and "Stuntron" as opposed to "Optimus Prime" and "Stunticon" the way that most post-2007 movie Japanese fiction does.
  • At BotCon 2016, Hayato Sakamoto mentioned the possibility that this story took place in the regular Japanese Generation 1 continuity,<ref>BotCon 2016 report by griffin</ref> which would eventually be established in 2017 by Legends LG53 Broadside.

Continuity notes

  • Grand Scourge first appeared in the Super Link pack-in comic "Optimus Prime VS Scourge". Given that this comic portrays Grand Scourge as a dedicated dimension hopper, it is likely that the Grand Scourge in this story is intended to be the exact same individual from Super Link.
  • Reverse Convoy being possessed by Japanese Generation 1 cartoon Megatron was part of the Robotmasters fiction, which never explained how it had gone down in the first place. Coincidentally a few weeks before this comic's release, a Facebook entry of Ask Vector Prime gave a detailed background of Reverse Convoy's life, but it stated that Reverse Convoy was alive before, during, and after his possession. This was due to the unfortunate coincidence of Ask Vector Prime's authors not having access to the yet-to-be-released Grand Scourge comic as well as not anticipating that Reverse Convoy would be revisited over a decade after his last appearance in fiction. Ask Vector Prime would rectify this continuity conflict by further stating that Grand Scourge had indeed mortally wounded Reverse Convoy, but Megatron's possession had inadvertently saved Reverse Convoy at the last second. You can start waving "I'm alive!" flags now.
  • This story indicates that Grand Scourge killed Reverse Convoy for being a Matrix bearer, and Ask Vector Prime would indeed confirm that Reverse Convoy possessed an Energon Matrix.

  • SARA was a pivotal character in the Cloud stories, also written by Makoto Wakabayashi. As an associate of the dimension-jumping Autobots of Cloud World, it is fitting that she warns the local Optimus Prime of a dimension-jumping threat.
  • The panel showing Reverse Convoy's corpse is similar to a 1986 Studio OX illustration depicting Optimus Prime's death.
