Decepticon High Council

The Decepticon High Council is the governing body of the Decepticon Empire. Among its powers is the right to appoint the leader of the Decepticon army. What relation they have to the command-giving Decepticon Imperial Headquarters, the ruling Triumvirate or the similarly named Decepticon High Command is unknown.

The Decepticon High Council appeared exclusively in the UK portion of the Marvel Comics continuity.

Thunderwing made a bid for Decepticon commander, and was set a test by the High Council. The Big Shutdown! He failed and a team was sent to retrieve him, Rage! which he commandeered to attack the Ark. The Council was impressed by this ballsy move and appointed him commander. Assault on the Ark!

  • As the Council were only seen once and then never again after appointing Thunderwing as leader, they could have been a temporary body to deal with the then-current leadership crisis. In the year they were seen (1989), Ratbat, the Triumverate and the Megatron clone all died in a relatively short space of time; Scorponok was on Earth and showing no real sign of focusing on Cybertron; and Shockwave and Megatron were deliberately pretending to be dead. Appointing a new leader would have been a matter of some urgency. However, since Thunderwing is said in "A Small War!" to be in power "fourteen months ago", that would mean they were appointing a leader when there already were leaders! (If not a temporary body, we would have to assume Megatron would form or allow a body that could appoint someone else as leader...)
  • Another Decepticon High Council appears in "Alignment", following another leadership crisis; nobody really wanted to be the new leader but did want to stick their oar in, as Soundwave grumped. It is composed of twice as many members, who individually go by the names Killzone, Mantissa, Mindgame, Sabrejaw, Stormfront, and Shrapnel. The council comes together at the Grand Forum in Kolkular.
