Dinobot Island is the name given by Spike Witwicky to an island on Earth that can only be accessed by flying through a mysterious energy column floating over the ocean. It is primordial, populated by dinosaurs and other reptiles from different periods of time, and rich in volcanic energy.
The island's position in time is unclear: It may be somehow trapped in a temporal bubble, isolated from the timestream; or the energy column may be a gateway to the entire prehistoric world, with the island being simply the nearest bit of land. Most evidence points to the former theory, but altering the island will produce strange temporal effects elsewhere in the present.
At any rate, what it sorely lacks in explanation, it makes up for in (woo!) dinosaurs!

[edit]
After scouting some strange power readings, Bumblebee and Powerglide encountered an unknown island in the middle of the ocean. Bumblebee was attacked by a pteranodon and was rescued by Powerglide, after which the pair examined the island briefly, leaving after a dinosaur attempted to attack them.
Returning to Autobot headquarters, they informed Optimus Prime of the find while a test of the Dinobots was made. It was decided that the Dinobots were simply too chaotic to work safely at headquarters. Bumblebee suggested the newly discovered island as a new home for the Dinobots, to which Prime agreed. As Spike, Powerglide and the Dinobots headed off to the island, they were shadowed by Laserbeak who transmitted his findings to Megatron. Megatron took his Decepticons to the island where they began to tap the island's energy reserves; much to Starscream's objections as he noted various instabilities on the island. The Dinobots eventually learnt of the Decepticon presence on their island and attacked, but Megatron responded by stampeding the real dinosaurs. The Dinobots were forced off a cliff and into a tar pit. Dinobot Island, Part 1

The draining of the island's energy reserves resulted in numerous time rifts forming all around the planet, bringing denizens from Earth's past into the present, including barbarians on mastodons, pirates, and cowboys. The Autobots learnt of the Decepticon presence on Dinobot Island and lay siege to Megatron's forces there. The Decepticons managed to gain the upper hand and were about to win when the Dinobots returned and brought their new friends, the dinosaurs, to the Autobots' aid. Defeated, the Decepticons fled the island. Optimus Prime and the Dinobots destroyed the Energon cubes collected which released the energy back to the island, thus replenishing it. Dinobot Island, Part 2
However, the island did not remain under solely Autobot control. Twenty years later, Galvatron sent Trypticon to Dinobot Island to recuperate after his first battle with Metroplex, and the Autobots were completely unaware. It was there that Octane enlisted Trypticon's help in his plan to use Socialist Democratic Federated Republic of Carbombyan oil to take over the Decepticons. All of this was only mentioned in passing, so no details are known about the state of the island or the extent of the Transformers' continued use of it. Thief in the Night
Story of Binaltech
[edit]Skids spent several years on Dinobot Island, studying its unique time warping powers and learning to harness them. In an effort to correct alterations to the timeline implemented by Ravage, the Autobots created "Operation: Distant Thunder"—they would send information back in time to warn their earlier selves of Ravage's actions. Skids intended to use the island's energies to accomplish the goal. Darkest Hour After fighting off a Decepticon attack, Skids succeeded in sending the probe containing the data back in time, only to discover that reality hadn't changed as expected. The Protector, possessing the bodyframe of Nemesis Prime, materialized in front of them to explain that although their attempt to change the past had succeeded, their own reality was now split from the main timeline. Paddles
[edit]The Dinobots tracked three Decepticons to the southern end of Dinobot Island, and during the ensuing battle, the Dinobot Paddles and Decepticon Raze were buried. Many years later, Dinobot Island had become a desert island, and the native prehistoric animals had long gone extinct. The two Transformers were dug up by a group of human archeology students, and it was only through a supreme effort that Paddles was able to save the humans from his Decepticon foe. He was once again buried, but decades later, he was excavated a second time. Paddles

[edit]Perceptor discovered Dinobot Island during the construction of an Autobot Road exit point on the nearby Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose Dweep Island. However, the Decepticons soon discovered the island, and began using its abundant geothermal power to create energon cubes. Their exploitation of the island's natural resources nearly destabilized the timestream, but the Autobots were able to defeat their foes and return the flow of time to normal. Afterwards, Grimlock and the other Dinobots, grateful to finally have found a place on Earth where they could stomp around without attracting attention, decided to stay behind so that they could protect the place from any future Decepticon attacks. Bumblebee occasionally stopped by to visit the Dinobots. Roleplaying Game Core Rulebook
