  • Dump Truck (First Transformer, 1986/1987/1993)
  • Takara name: Dump-kun
  • Takara ID number: C-002
One of three Playskool First Transformers toys released in 1986, the "Dump Truck" transforms from an adorable stubby dump truck with shovel-buckets on its front end into an adorable robot just a few short steps. The dump-bed is fully functional, rotating on a ratcheting joint.
There is a minor sticker variant to this release: some have a red-grilled sticker for the truck front (top of the robot head), while others have a gray black-outlined sticker. It appears that the red-sticker one may be an earlier, less common release.
Takara released all three in Japan without changes the following year, giving the Dump Truck the moniker "Dump-kun" (and using the silver/black-sticker iteration of the toy).
Playskool re-released the three in new packaging (a generic box for all three types) in 1993. While the other two only had sticker differences (and fairly minor ones at that), the Dump Truck got some more involved changes. The most immediately-noticeable is that the robot mode face is now painted blue instead of silver (despite what the box photo shows), with white-and-black eye stickers. However, the shovel-feet have also been retooled, so rather than having a pair of "teeth" sticking out of the ends -which have a nasty tendency to snap off, something you really don't want in a toy for tiny tots- there is a central indent into the bucket portion, preventing breakage. The grill sticker is now yellow with four simple black vent-slots, the right-side chest sticker has altered colors, and the hip-plate sticker has been completely redesigned with monitors and buttons.
