Edgar Wald (born February 26, 1941) is a Mexican actor and voice actor who did most of his voice work while living in Los Angeles. Like Peter Cullen, he's best known for voicing Optimus Prime, but his other voice work includes James Bond in The Living Daylights, Destro and Bazooka in G.I. Joe and dubbing Ivan Drago in Rocky IV.[1] For a while, it was rumored that Wald had died, but it was later confirmed the rumors were false.

Notes

[edit]
  • Though Wald is retired, and Optimus Prime was voiced in the first two movies by Blas García, Spanish-speaking fans started a petition to get Wald cast as Optimus for the Dark of the Moon Spanish dub,[2] but were ultimately unsuccessful as Blas García remained as Optimus Prime's voice actor in the third film.
  • When fellow Latin-American G1 dub voice actor Enrique Garduza took on the duties of directing the Latin-American Spanish dub of Rescue Bots Academy, he sought out to bring Edgar Wald to reprise the role of Optimus Prime, Wald initially accepted the role but would later drop out due to payment issues before recording started.
