"He's not a child. He's 34!"
According to one particular telling of the origin of the eight Godmaster Transtectors, they were all originally a single entity known as Godmaster (ゴッドマスター Goddomasutā).
Fiction
[edit]Super-God Masterforce cartoon
[edit]When the Autobots managed to capture Cancer, he related to them the story of Godmaster as it had been told to him by Giga and Mega. Godmasters, Giga claimed, were godly beings from the depths of space, who served as messengers for the Decepticons. The Godmasters then on Earth came to the planet in the ancient past, although originally, they were not multiple beings, but one giant entity which split seven "offspring" off from itself when it entered Earth's atmosphere. The seven offspring fell on land, while the main body was buried deep in an ocean trench until the present day, when they awoke, took the form of transtectors, and awaited human life with which to bond. Giga and Mega, it was revealed, were bonded to the main body. A Strange Friendship: Cancer and Minerva
This account would later be contradicted by Autobot Headmaster Grand Maximus, who told Shūta Gō that the Godmasters were actually technology from the planet Master, which had been stolen from G Nebula 89 by the evil energy entity, Devil Z, and hidden on Earth. Ask Vector Prime
[edit]Godmaster and Godmessenger were children of a Light God and both possessed two genders. They came to Earth to "break the Silence and spread the Word"; though they were infused with the power of Tenchōkon, the infusion of Chichōkon that hit them as they entered Earth's atmosphere caused Godmaster to split into eight parts and lose their ego, and caused Godmessenger to lose their corporeal form and become the malevolent Devil Z.
When asked about the two conflicting versions of the Godmasters' origin, and whether the account of Godmaster and Godmessenger had been a falsehood told to Giga by Devil Z, Vector Prime claimed that both were true. After recounting Godmaster and Godmessenger's origins in a little more detail, he explained that the two tellings co-existed within the same timeline as per "the fluid nature of the intersection of myth and reality", as well as quantum disruptions caused by the destruction of that universe system's Cybertron. Notes
[edit]- The two conflicting origins of the Godmasters originated with the Super-God Masterforce cartoon. Although the "stolen transtectors" origin appeared to "win out" in the eyes of canon, a complication arose when the Kiss Players line published two separate timelines within a year of each other, detailing Japanese Generation 1 cartoon continuity. One timeline used the "stolen transtectors" origin, but the other used the "fragments of an alien being" origin. Ask Vector Prime attempts to have its cake and eat it two by acknowledging both origins and giving priority to neither. Regardless of Ask Vector Prime's efforts, subsequently published Legends comics would decidedly give priority to the G Nebula origin and expand upon it.
