Greatest Showdown in History: Lio Convoy VS Galvatron, also known as simply Transformers: Beast Wars II (トランスフォーマー ビーストウォーズII), is an arcade game developed by Sigma Enterprises, and published in 1998 by Takara for Japanese markets. As its name implies, it pits Lio Convoy against Galvatron in a 1-on-1 battle for supremacy (and the player's medals).

Gameplay

[edit]
You think 24K-Bit would have to bet himself?

Greatest Showdown in History is a [[wikipedia:{{#if:|:}}medal game|{{#if:||medal game}}]], a type of gambling/redemption based arcade game. Rather than real money, the player spends medals (metal coins comparable to arcade tokens) in the hopes of winning more medals, which can then be spent to play more games or exchanged with the arcade staff for prizes.

In the game, medals fed into the machine add to a pot on Galvatron's side. The player must then wager three of these to activate combat, with Lio Convoy and Galvatron transforming to robot mode. The player, controlling Lio Convoy, has to quickly press one of three attack buttons when prompted. Depending on the speed of input and choice of attack, damage will be dealt to either or both of the characters. A second round (set on the moon!) acts as a decider. If the player wins, they will earn additional medals that get fed back into the pot, while a loss will cause their stake to disappear. The player can choose to cash out their medals any time between battles.

Notes

[edit]
  • The game features a looped sample of the Beast Wars II cartoon's first opening theme, "Get My Future".
  • There is spoken dialogue for both characters, seemingly provided by their cartoon voice actors, Hozumi Gōda and Tetsuo Komura.
  • The game's title screen simply presents the Beast Wars II logo, though the title "Greatest Showdown in History" appears (in Japanese) at the end of the game's attract roll in the style of an anime title card.
  • Technically, by virtue of being a gambling game intended only for ages 18 and up, Greatest Showdown in History has the highest age rating of any Transformers video game ever released.
