After taking on a Volkswagen alternate mode, Bumblebee ended up under a tarpaulin in the salvage yard at Uncle Hank's. Charlie Watson frequented the store, buying parts to fix the old Corvette she'd been working on with her father before he died. During one such visit, she stumbled on Bumblebee while picking parts out of the boats in the salvage yard. She later returned to ask Hank if she could have the Volkswagen in return for working off the debt, but instead he gave her the car outright, though both he and employee Bill noted that the vehicle was almost certainly unsafe to drive.
