Iguanamonss is a Beastformer from the Generation 1 continuity family.
The rare Transformers-related character named some form of "Iguana" that's actually an iguana.

Iguanamonss (イグアナモンス Iguanamonsu) has great confidence in his combat skills. A crafty fighter who uses his speed and stealth to sneak up on his targets, he disorients with lightning-quick motions, luring his opponents into whiffing attacks so he can strike when they leave themselves open. And with his Monsabeler (モンサーベラー Monsāberā) blade capable of cleaving even foot-thick magnum steel plating with a proper charge, he can do some major damage.

But this confidence is also something of a mask, as he is ultimately a very conservative and fearful being, afraid to go outside his "comfort zone" and try new tactics, to put himself out there. It's why his main, if not only tactic is to attack after his opponent, as he's actually not very strong at all, relying on the Monsabeler to do most of the work for him, as well as keeping himself from becoming the one who's left himself open to counterattack. It's worked well so far, why risk things by changing it up?

Following the war, he retreated to his home island of Onomis, where he rules as its King... and his behavior hasn't changed a whole lot. He's still very much a "stick with what you know" type. But now he's got the very crafty Green Chameles backing him up. Chameles is always coming up with new plans, slowly pushing Igunanamonss outside his normal boundaries, slowly crafting him into a more confident fighter.

Toys

[edit]

Transformers: Beastformers

[edit]
  • Iguanamonss (Beastformer, 1987)
  • ID number: 29
  • Pack: E
  • Accessories: Sword (usually)
Released in the third series of Takara's Beastformers toys, Igunamonss is a yellow anthopomorphic yellow iguana in orange robotic armor. The Battle Emblem on his chest reveals one of three symbols when warmed up; Fire, Water or Wood.
He usually comes with a gold sword weapon marked with the same ID number as on his back. However, Beastformers is notorious for toys coming with someone else's weapon; it's unclear if this was just originally poor QC, but in the sequel series, this semi-random weaponry was actually turned into a "gimmick".
He was only available in the "E Pack" assortment, and came in a green-grid generic "Destron Beastformer" box. He came with a bio card with a comic-style character image on a jungle backdrop, though there was a chance his bio card would instead be replaced with the rare "VS Holography Mirror" card featuring Green Chameles and Platinum Tiger.

Merchandise

Meiji candy toys

[edit]

  • Ramune Beastformers Battle Card (1988)
    • Meiji ID number: 33
A gold-foil "Battle Card" of Iguanamonss, featuring painted character art of the kind found on early Transformers: Beastformers bio cards, was available in randomly-packed sets of cards that came with ramune-flavored candy tablets, sold by candy/snack company Meiji, during the post-Transformers "RPG" sequel series. The back of the card features a severely truncated bio, with data for the game from the Meiji chocoball SD figures' packaging.
Though this card shows line-art of a super-deformed Iguanamonss toy, no actual toy was ever produced.

Notes

[edit]
  • Igunanamonss's character art gives him a weird tree-branchy-looking weapon that is totally not what the toy comes with. His 1988 art was partially redrawn to correct this.
  • As Iguanamonss was not sold in the post-Transformers sequel series and thus had no bio card, his "RPG"-era bio comes from the Hero Special 4: Beastformers mook. This bio gives him the nickname "Monss" (モンス Monsu).
