Jean-François Poron

Jean-François Poron (May 6, 1936 - September 3, 2020) was a French actor.
Very active on stage, he played in around 15 theater plays between 1957 and 1984. At the same time, he appeared in various films and TV series until the middle of the 90s. Although little known to the general public, he played major roles in La Princesse de Clèves from director Jean Delannoy in 1961 or in Le Masque de fer from Henri Decoin in 1962.
After a long hiatus in the late 1980s, he appeared in popular series such as Une femme d'honneur, Maigret, and Navarro. His ultimate role was in 2012, in What the Day Owes the Night from Alexandre Arcady, marking his return to cinema.
His extremely rare dubbing roles are Terence Hill as Marco Manin in The Hassled Hooker, Tommy Lee Jones as Sam Quint in Black Moon Rising, Bryan Brown as Doug Coughlin in Cocktail and Miguel Ferrer as Kaufman in Point of No Return.
Jean-François Poron died on September 3, 2020 at the age of 84, from a lung infection.

[edit]Notes
[edit]- Since no information has ever been released about the cast of the French dub of the 1986 film, most of the roles have been recognized by voice acting enthusiasts. For many years, it has been written on various sites that Optimus Prime was dubbed by prolific actor Pierre Arditi. However, in 2024, it was assumed that it was in fact the voice of Jean-François Poron, people pointing out that the voice was the same as Bryan Brown's in Cocktail.[1]
