Jolup

Jolup is a Quintesson from the Marvel portion of the Generation 1 continuity family.
Jolup, Jolup, I'm begging of you please don't take my man.

An Executioner, Jolup holds a similar position to General Ghyrik in the Quintesson hierarchy. It's possible he holds a higher rank than General, because he gets a red cape, and Ghyrik doesn't.

Marvel The Transformers comics

[edit]
Jolup appeared exclusively in the UK portion of the Marvel Comics continuity.

When the planet Quintesson was threatened with imminent destruction by a rift in time and space, Jolup was called to an emergency meeting at the royal palace to plan the survival of the Quintesson race. There Lord Kledji reluctantly accepted that the Trawler Project initiated by Sevax had failed due to the intervention of the Junkion leader Wreck-Gar, and ordered the Quintessons to default to their back-up plan: the annihilation of the Transformers and the colonisation of Cybertron. While Ghyrik attacked Autobot City on Earth, drawing the Autobot fleet offworld, Jolup planted an agent on Cybertron to trick Soundwave's Decepticons into attacking the remaining Autobot forces. Soundwave took the bait, and led his troops straight into a Quintesson ambush.

Unfortunately both plans were doomed to failure: Ghyrik was defeated on Earth by the rude awakening of Metroplex, while Jolup's forces were driven off Cybertron by an unlikely alliance between the Decepticons and Autobots under the command of Ultra Magnus. Space Pirates!

Notes

[edit]
  • Kledji's last act was to order his "loyal warriors" to abandon Quintesson to its fate and to continue waging war against the Cybertronians. It's likely he was speaking to Jolup, though it's not explicitly stated in the issue and Jolup's ultimate fate remains unrevealed.
  • Jolup's cape disappears for a couple of panels during his first appearance and is missing entirely from his second. Its only purpose seems to be to distinguish him from the nigh-identical Ghyrik when they are together.
