Junior Press
Junior Press was a Dutch publisher of comic books that is located in the Netherlands. It printed The Transformers comic book series up until On the Edge of Extinction!. They also printed The Transformers: Headmasters as a stand-alone comic which was given out for free at toy stores.
The Dutch editing staff on Junior Press consisted of:
- Siebe Snoeren (issues #1- 10) and Tjerk Snoeren (#11 - 32) - Translations
- Ans Loos - Dutch production and End production
- BeauType - Lettering. Different people were credited here.
Because the comic was only printed every three months and they couldn't fit more than two US issues in one Dutch comic (with the exception of a single double-sized issue), several issues had to be omitted in order to stay current with the US releases, with explanations of what had happened in the intervening stories having to be printed on the introductions page. This was intentionally done in the case of Optimus Prime and Megatron's deaths in "Afterdeath!" and "Gone but Not Forgotten!" respectively, as they chose to publish Marvel's Transformers: the Movie as part of the main comic—rather than a separate standalone or miniseries—and believed killing the characters twice would only confuse the readers. Strangely, the non-canon story "The Big Broadcast of 2006" was also published. Junior Press would also publish profiles from The Transformers Universe and even a few issues from the Marvel UK comic in the regular series to help fill space when necessary.
Of further note is that in the earlier issues, Optimus mistakenly went by the name "Jetfire", as Jetfire had been positioned as the leader of the Autobots in early European marketing due to the initial unavailability of Prime's toy in those markets.
On Dutch issue #25 (US #61), the writers and the artists made Transformers names from their own names (Simon Furman Maximus, Geoffire Senior and Shrapnel Yomtov). The Dutch editors did the same thing with their names: Tjerkicon Snoeren, BumblebeauType and Ans Autoloos (which actually means Ans without a car)
The last Dutch issue (#32) ends differently than the original issue (#75, On the Edge of Extinction!). The prologue is removed and instead of the last texts being "But life goes on and the story of The Transformers .... ... is far from told!", it ends with: "Goodbye brave Transformers: goodbye Cybertron ... All the best...!" And the last page is a full black and white version of the picture of Cybertron on the page before.
