Junior officer

"Junior officer" is a position of some sort in the Autobot army. The only known purpose of a junior officer is to listen to Optimus Prime congratulate himself...or to listen to him announce the creation of S.T.A.R.S., depending on how revisionist you prefer your history.

An unnamed junior officer was featured in two early messages sent by the Autobots to human allies. They claimed that they were on Earth at a time when the Autobots were desperate for aid against the Decepticons, sending an S.O.S. to Cybertron even though they didn't know if anyone would be there to receive it. Their hope turned out to be well-founded, as reinforcements were sent back in the form of the Omnibots, Powerdashers, and Time Warriors. When the new troops arrived, Optimus turned to the junior officer and told them, "I knew they wouldn't let us down." Reinforcements from Cybertron!

At least, that's what the first message said. The second message was a near-verbatim copy of the first, except for the addition of an offer of S.T.A.R.S. membership. Some incidental bits were changed to accommodate this, including what Prime said to the junior officer. His cheerful expression of validated faith was replaced with the awkward, "Now we must recruit Earth allies to join the S.T.A.R.S. (Secret Transformers Autobot Rescue Squad) and defeat the Decepticons once and for all." The battle is far from over!
