KSI Sentries are Decepticons from the Age of Extinction portion of the movie continuity family.
Hot damn, Mudflap's plastic surgery was a rousing success!

Among KSI's latest civilian prototypes are the KSI Sentries, which use the miracle of Transformium to change into Chevrolet Trax SUVs. Despite their civilian nature, they sure seem to pack a lot of missiles—perhaps due to a key stakeholder's ambitions of seeing a fully automated United States military—but you needn't worry: KSI has total control of its creations.

...it does, right?

Age of Extinction film

Various Sentries in robot and vehicle mode were present at KSI's Chinese factory facility when the company's Galvatron prototype—secretly possessed by the intelligence of Megatron— was brought in, and were then among the drones that the Decepticon leader seized command of for himself. With Galvatron's desired prize, the ancient Seed device, currently being spirited away to Hong Kong by humans, the KSI Sentries burst free from the factory alongside their new master and rolled out in vehicle mode chase it down.

While Galvatron's forces successfully reached the vicinity of Joshua Joyce and the Seed within the city, the Autobots' commandeered spacecraft then appeared overhead to exfiltrate them. To prevent their escape, a KSI Sentry opened fire on the ship with a missile, sending it careening away into the mountains and stranding Hound, Bumblebee and their human allies with the Seed. The Sentries and other KSI drones proceeded to fight a furious battle against the two Autobots for possession of the device, and despite heavy losses, came close to overwhelming the pair. However, the return of the other Autobots from the mountains, now allied with four Dinobots, led to a near-total rout of Galvatron's forces, allowing the humans to continue fleeing with the Seed.

Shortly after Optimus Prime concluded his final showdown with Lockdown in a industrial area, the remaining KSI drones, including a number of Sentries, began converging on the location to attack. The Autobot leader, however, activated one of the bounty hunter's powerful grenades before jetting away, wiping out the gathered drones. Age of Extinction

Studio Series

That one forgotten cousin who shows up at the party just to be left out.
  • KSI Sentry (Deluxe Class, 2018)
  • Movie: Age of Extinction
  • Hasbro ID number: 23
  • TakaraTomy ID number: SS-17
  • TakaraTomy release date: October 27, 2018
  • Accessories: stinger blade weapon, "Hong Kong Pursuit" backdrop
  • Known designers: John Warden (Hasbro){{#if: |, {{{2}}}}}
Studio Series KSI Sentry is a blue redeco of Stinger with a new head and weapon based on the movie design, transforming from robot to licensed Pagani Huayra and back in 21 steps. He comes with a cardboard backdrop display depicting the Hong Kong battle in Age of Extinction. Instead of the four saw blades that Stinger had, he comes equipped with a detachable claw/blade thing that makes his kibble weapon a bit more believable. Despite this he retains the four 'arms' on his back that the saw blades would mount to.

Movie Edition

  • KSI Sentry (Tiny Turbo Changer, 2019)
  • Series: 5
  • Bag Code: A
Released in Series 5 of Tiny Turbo Changers, KSI Sentry is an off-white redeco of the Soundwave figure from Series 1, transforming into a sports car of fictitious origin rather than a Chevy Trax. He features articulation at his shoulders and waist, and his hands are compatible with Cyberverse weapons and other small accessories.
Series 5 only barely made it to retail. Very few retailers and virtually no online outlets offered this Series, and the few places they could be found, like Target, apparently got very very few of them.

Notes

[edit]
  • The Chevrolet Trax prop vehicles seen in onscreen in KSI's possession include red, black, silver and blue cars, although only the first three seem to show up in robot mode, with each also having a unique shade for their eye visors: yellow-green for the red Sentries, blue-purple for the silver ones, and red for the black ones. While there are some blurry frames during the Hong Kong battle scenes that appear to show blue Sentries (albeit not the rich dark blue of the prop cars), it's hard to say with any certainty that these aren't simply the silver robot model picking up blue from its lighting.
  • The KSI Sentries went unnamed both by the Age of Extinction film and Hasbro for several years until the release of the Studio Series toy. Prior to this, the only source to ascribe a name to the robots had been an LA Times article discussing General Motors' Chinese marketing, which described the Trax cars as transforming "into a robot of the same name", although it's unclear if this claim was based on any concrete information from GM or otherwise.<ref>GM using new ‘Transformers’ film to promote Trax SUV in China</ref>
  • Despite popular misbelief, official sources have never applied the "Vehicon" name to the KSI Sentries.
