General Lane is a human from the G.I. Joe vs. the Transformers portion of the Generation 1 continuity family.

Upon discovering that advanced alien machines have come to Earth, General Lane concerns himself on how the American military could benefit from such a development.

G.I. Joe vs. the Transformers

When Cobra revealed themselves to the world, using Cybertronians as weapons to attack the United Nations, General Lane was one of five generals who began keeping tabs on the terrorist organization. G.I. Joe was then formed to fight back against Cobra. The Joes eventually managed to pinpoint Cobra’s base of operations thanks to the help of two Cybertronians not under their control, Wheeljack and Bumblebee. Seeing the opportunity to not only wipe out Cobra but also seize advanced alien technology, the generals decided to nuke Cobra Island and have the two Cybertronians in their “possession” taken to Area 51 for disassembly. General Abernathy was initially going to go through with these orders, but when he learned that an energon stockpile would react violently to the nuclear blast, covering half the globe in nuclear winter, he defied orders and took Wheeljack and Bumblebee out to rescue their fellow Autobots and stop the bomb.
