Notes

[edit]
  • The term "Life Spark" originates with an early draft of The Transformers: The Movie, in which it was used to refer to the life force of a Transformer. That term actually even found its way into a revised version of Cyclonus's bio ("Cyclonus is a huge and emotionless air-warrior metamorphosized from dead Decepticon Hero Life Spark and remnants by Unicron").<ref name="1986bible">Transformers: 1986 character binder at the Sunbow Marvel Archive.</ref> The use of the singular form, opposed to the plural form of "remnants", as well as the capitalization along with the attribute "hero", made a misinterpretation of the term as the name of an actual Decepticon almost inevitable, causing author Simon Furman to use it in that manner for "Target: 2006".
  • In said draft, the "Life Spark" is essentially analogous to the spark, the life force of a Transformer that would be introduced in the Beast Wars cartoon some ten years after the film was released. Unlike the pulsating spheres of Beast Wars, Life Sparks are described as small glowing versions of the Transformer to whom they belong—a very "ghostly" interpretation of the idea. Other specifics include:
    • When Megatron is wounded in his battle with Optimus Prime, he realizes that his death is imminent, and requests that the Decepticons remove his Life Spark and place it in an urn in the Hall of Heroes, the customary resting place of Decepticon Life Sparks. Rather than be cast into space by Starscream, Megatron survives the trip back to Cybertron, at which point fighting breaks out in the Hall of Heroes over who will be the next leader. In the chaos, a statue is knocked over and falls on Megatron, destroying his body, and, having not been enshrined, his Life Spark then floats off into space, where it goes on to be recovered by Unicron and given a new body as Galvatron.
    • Other Life Sparks from the Hall of Heroes are also released into space from their urns at the same time Megatron was destroyed, and it is from these Life Sparks that Cyclonus, his "Armada", Scourge, and the Sweeps are built. So, hey, Cyclonus was originally Murdron or Ghoulon or somebody.
    • Optimus Prime's Life Spark takes the place of the Matrix of Leadership in this version of the story, being transferred to Ultra Magnus in a beam of light, then sucked out of Magnus and placed into a bottle by Galvatron. Its power transforms Hot Rod into Rodimus Prime, and as he and Galvatron fight, the bottle is broken, and Optimus Prime's Life Spark is released and destroys Unicron as the Matrix did in the finished film.
  • In Kingdom Cyclonus's product description, it states Cyclonus was reformatted from Bombshell/Skywarp/both/neither.<ref>Hasbro Pulse product description states "Cyclonus, a Herald of Unicron, first appears in the 1986 movie when Bombshell/Skywarp/both/neither was reformatted into the second-in-command of Galvatron."</ref>
