Gnaw's maceration laser fires a stream of salt-based corrosives, joining the grand tradition of laser weapons that somehow fire something other than laser beams. Presumably, this softens opponents for easier chewing. Or maybe the salt flavors the food, who knows?

The Transformers Gnaw came with a gray weapon, identified as a maceration laser in his instructions and packaging bio, that he could hold in robot mode.

In Japan, this toy was only available as a mail-away contest prize in the first wave of the Beastformers spin-off line in 1987, requiring mailing in five filled-in survey forms from Beastformers toys for a chance to win. It was later made available in limited quantities as a mail-away in 1988.
