Dwelling deep beneath the surface of Cybertron, Monsterbots (aka Pesticons) are prehistoric creatures who inhabit an untamed, primordial land filled with savage Cybertronian wildlife. Their level of intelligence seems to correspond to their bug-monster alternate modes, and they have a craving for Energon. Notable Monsterbots include:

Deprived of energon after the near-destruction of Cybertron and the draining of its natural resources, Repugnus and his tribe were trapped in their simple beast modes for many years, eking out a hardscrabble existence in their dying world. One of Repugnus's fellow Monsterbots captured Bumblebee as he journeyed towards the Well of the Allspark. Battle For Cybertron III

The Monsterbots would have feasted on the Autobot if it wasn't for the timely arrival of Cheetor, who told them of their mission and used the AllSpark to sate their hunger. In gratitude, Repugnus and his tribe led the duo to the Well's backdoor. Once Cybertron was restored, the Monsterbots rejoiced at the planet's revival. Battle For Cybertron IV

At some later point, Affluous forced Teknicus to build a device segregating those loyal to him, whom he dubbed the "Energon Masters", and those he deemed unworthy. The Energon Masters were visited by Bumblebee, who was on a mission to locate one of Windblade's psychic shards, during one of Affluous's energon parties. The Autobot was thrown into their dungeon, along with Teknicus and Energon Masters sufferings from "the shocks", though he was able to break them out using his multiverse energy.

Beyond the Monsterbot city, Repugnus and his tribe had to survive on scraps, lest they die of starvation or get captured for trespassing. When fleeing a group of Injectors, the Monsterbots were saved by Grimlock. In gratitude, Repugnus offered his new friend some energon and told him of the Monsterbots' societal divide. Morally outraged by what he heard, Grimlock led Repugnus's tribe to the city to overthrow the Energon Masters. Joined by Bumblebee's party moments later, the Autobots destroyed Teknicus's tower. With the Energon Masters transforming into insect mode and Repugnus's tribe transforming into robot mode, equality among the Monsterbots was restored. As for Affluous, he fled the city in dejection upon transforming into his insect mode. Journey To The Valley Of Repugnus

Cyberverse

[edit]
  • Repugnus (One-Step Changer, 2019)
  • Action Attack: "Gruesome Chomp"
Released under the Bumblebee Cyberverse Adventures assortment of One-Step Changers, Cyberverse Repugnus is an entirely new mold, transforming from bug-monster to robot by flipping his monster legs forward. He features a "Gruesome Chomp" action attack, activated by pulling a tab on his bug head. Repugnus is surprisingly articulated for his size class, featuring ball-jointed shoulders and elbows. Elbows, fellas!

  • Repugnus Revenge (Multi-pack, 2020)
Part of Target's Cybertronian Villains line of store exclusives, Cyberverse Repugnus Revenge includes a green and teal redeco of the above One-Step Changer Repugnus toy and three newly-molded Pesticons of a smaller Tiny Turbo Changer-style. One is colored red, the second is blue, and the third is greenish-yellow.
While this isn't uncommon for Cyberverse exclusives, all toys in the set are labeled as Decepticons. Oddly accurate to the show, the packaging shows the larger Repugnus in robot mode compared to the smaller Pesticons in beast mode, similar to how the Monsterbots were presented in the cartoon.

Notes

[edit]
  • The Monsterbots' insect-beast modes are inspired by the Titan Master accessory vehicle included with Generation 1 Repugnus's Titans Return toy. Their robot modes, meanwhile, are heavily inspired by the original Repugnus' special edition Titans Return toy.
  • Similar to other Cyberverse bestial characters, the "Repugnus Revenge" toys are branded as Decepticons, and presumably why they are renamed to "Pesticons" on the packaging.
