Struggling against growing Decepticon domination of Cybertron, Magnus receives an offer to join the Alternity.

Synopsis

[edit]

In an unknown universal stream, on the planet Cybertron, the Autobot administrative official named Magnus is on patrol in Sector 51 of the planet, observing the damaged caused by the increased aggression of the Decepticons. Ever since Megatron attained the power of the Hytherion, the Decepticons' tactics have changed from attacking specific strategic targets to widespread, sweeping destruction across the planet. The Autobots have not rested on their laurels, but things are going slowly; they have, at least, managed to clear the Decepticons out of City #14, which is slowly being repopulated and repaired. Magnus arrives at the city, and uses a device to brand a huge Autobot symbol into the planetary surface, marking City #14 as being under Autobot protection.

As Magnus regards his work, he is suddenly dazzled by an intense flash of light, as a brilliantly glowing figure appears from thin air. Telepathically communicating with the Autobot hero, the being of light puzzles Magnus by referring to him with the military title of "Ultra", which he does not possess. As Magnus watches, reality splits open in front of him, and from the resultant portal, a white auto-avatar resembling Optimus Prime steps forth. Magnus realizes that the light-being is one of the Alternity as it invites him to join them. Magnus shakes hands with the auto-avatar, and in that moment, joins the Alternity collective, becoming a composite being sharing the mind and memories of the other Magnuses from across the multiverse. With this new power, he vows to do all he can for peace in the universe... because nothing is impossible under the name of the Autobots... or the name of Ultra Magnus!

Transformer references

[edit]
  • Evidently, the Megatron native to Magnus's reality is one of the various Megatrons from across the multiverse who joined the Megatron Aggregate, the eeeevil equivalent of the Alternity. Could it perhaps be "Blade Silver" Megatron, the only member of the Aggregate who has appeared to date whose universe of origin is unknown?
  • Boy, that figure of light sure looks like Xaaron when he was possessed by Primus in the Generation 1 Marvel comics, particularly on this cover. We have no idea what to make of this.
  • The idea of "Ultra" being a title is a new one, though it certainly calls to mind the title-based ranking system used in Transformers Animated. Here, "Ultra" is a lower rank than "Prime", while in Animated, "Magnus" was the highest of titles.

Other notes

[edit]
  • Like the previous two e-HOBBY exclusive comics, this adventure features text in both Japanese and English. And just like those other two issues, the English continues to be of the most hilariously mangled variety.
    • In fact, this is technically titled Nissan GT-R / Ultla Magnus (Brilliant Pearl White).
  • Oddly, this universe contains the rank "Prime" and not "Convoy". Nothing says that is not possible in a new continuity, but one would think for brand consistency that an Alternity story would employ "Convoy".
