An Orbital Cycle is a unit of time that corresponds to how long Cybertron's largest moon takes to orbit the planet, which makes it the Cybertronian equivalent of a month. Each orbital cycle consists of thirty-two solar cycles (with an equivalent date range on Earth calendars) while ten orbital cycles make up a Cybertronian year, or a stellar cycle. Each orbital cycle has its own name and is associated with a sign from the Cybertronian zodiac. They are, in order that they appear in the Gregevorian Calendar system:

Notes

[edit]
  • The names of the orbital cycles were originally introduced in The Allspark Almanac II, and as such, most of them are some form of reference.
    • Ferruneon is based on the Latin word for iron, ferrum, because, you know, Transformers are made out of metal.
    • Navitaneon could be from the NAVI computers of the various Beast Wars shows.
    • Primaneon could be named after Prima, Primus, or Prime, but since it is associated with the Void in the Cybertronian Zodiac, it could also be named after Primacron, the creator of Unicron in the G1 cartoon.
    • Chokoneon derives its name from Chōkon Power, which is an energy source from the Super-God Masterforce series.
    • Zetcaneon is named after the Masterforce Warrior, Zetca, from the above series.
    • Boltaneon receives its name from Boltax, the protector of the Underbase.
    • Rokuneon contains the word roku (六), which is Japanese for six.
    • Heptaneon comes from the Greek word heptá (ἑπτά), meaning seven.
    • Bahneon may get its "bah" from the first syllable of the universal greeting, which signifies well meaning, in a manner similar to how Bahneon signifies peace.
    • Inrituneon gets the short end of the stick as it doesn't appear to be based on something.
  • When first named in The AllSpark Almanac II, Zetcaneon was referred to as Zetca-, with the hyphen suggesting that it should have the same "neon" ending as the others, but there was nothing to confirm this was an error at the time. It was corrected in The Complete AllSpark Almanac.
  • While Rokuneon and Heptaneon's names would indicate that they should be the sixth and seventh orbital cycles, respectively, they are listed as the eighth and the ninth. This is similar to the Gregorian Calendar with what happened to September and the months that followed it.
