The sensei (先生, "teacher") is a [[wikipedia:{{#if:|:}}kendo|{{#if:||kendo}}]] instructor who lives and teaches in Japan.

The sensei was training with his students when a battle between Defensor and Bruticus came awfully close to their dojo. Defensor went all out to prevent harm to come to the humans, but Bruticus got backup from Cyclonus, Scourge, and the Sweeps. Then Defensor got backup from Sky Lynx, Kup, and Rodimus Prime, who chased off the Decepticons. Grateful for the Autobots' aid, the sensei and his students greeted them outside and assured that none of them had gotten injured.
The Japanese government, on the other hand, was nowhere near as considerate, angrily shouting Rodimus Prime into a deep funk that led him to ditch his obligations as Prime. As Hot Rod, he eventually returned to the dojo to witness the sensei's kendo lessons. After berating Ozu for assuming aggression would offer him victory and explaining that the "win or lose" mentality didn't do him any favors, the sensei ended the lesson and went to talk with Hot Rod. Deducing the young Autobot was intrigued by what he had told Ozu, the sensei elaborated that if one thinks of winning, one automatically considers the possibility of losing. Thinking of losing in turn induces a fear that prevents victory—a sentiment Hot Rod was currently suffering from. Hot Rod thanked him for his words of wisdom and left the dojo to go reacquire what his fear had caused him to lose. The Burden Hardest to Bear
