Press Release: Teletraan-1 Wikia moves to TFWiki.net
Teletraan-1 Wikia Moves to TFWIKI.net
[edit]September 15, 2008 – In response to the changing needs of the community, the Teletraan-1 Transformers Wiki has broken ties with the Wikia, Inc. hosting service to strike out on its own. The newly independent wiki now goes by the name TFWIKI.NET, bringing its previous content and its most devoted and accurate contributors and admin staff to its new location, with a fresh new look and features as well.

"I guess I have to because you are grabbing my tiny arm."
TFWIKI.NET staff have cited increasingly obstructive advertising, forced format and design changes as the primary reasons for the move to an independently hosted wiki solution. "One day I came to the wiki, looking for Rorza, the Rocket-cycle Racer from Rigel III, but his image was no longer there! Instead, there was a block selling Pop-tarts," said David Willis, the founder of the new TFWIKI.net.
TFWIKI.NET’s independence from Wikia, Inc. will allow the wiki to continue bringing "the perfect mix of retentive detail and irreverence" (Pablo Hidalgo, Lucasfilm website content manager, [1]) to the public while limiting advertising to unobtrusive, directed content of interest to the Transformers fan community. The move was hailed as a coup for producers of user-created content by mainstream press in an article in the July 31st online edition of the Guardian newspaper. ([2])
The wiki staff and contributors decided on the name change to reduce confusion in regard to the old host. In the first 48 hours after the official move on September 14th, the out-of-date site, still hosted on Wikia’s servers, quickly fell behind TFWIKI.NET in terms of the quality and frequency of updated information. TFWIKI.NET is not concerned about potential confusion with Wikia, Inc.’s archived version of the old wiki. "The content, the contributors and the fans have all moved to the new server. If you were to compare the experience of reading TFWIKI.NET to reading Teletraan-1 prior to the move, you would see that the experience is identical," regular contributor Greg Sepelak said shortly after the official move on September 14.
"Well, that’s not entirely true. The new wiki doesn’t block the content area of the articles with animated ads," Sepelak continued. That's good news for people who want to know more about Optimus Prime and the Autobots' battles with Megatron and the evil Decepticons.
