Proto-Combiner

A Proto-Combiner is a type of Transformer from Power Core Combiners.

Proto-Combiners are Transformers who have the potential to become combiners but lack access to the necessary technology. Specifically, they were meant to be Power Core Combiners, but that technology had been lost in the early days of the war. Denied the opportunity to merge, a Proto-Combiner endures life with a sense of incompleteness that evokes pity in other Transformers. The main alternative is the Decepticon Gestalt Process, a substandard attempt at replicating Power Core Combination that ends up destroying the minds of the participants. The Autobots tried to carefully develop their own version, but with little more success. Luckily, the recent rediscovery of Power Core Combination on Earth is allowing Proto-Combiners to once again fulfill their potential.<ref>Hasbro Transformers Collectors' Club #32 story blurb</ref>
