Rotor Force is a subgroup from the Generation 2 portion of the Generation 1 continuity family.
You spin me right round, baby, right round, like a record baby, right round round round…

The Rotor Force is a cross-factional sub-group of Transformers, so called because of their powerful firing rotor-weapon assemblies.

That's not a rotor, that's a buzzsaw...

The entire Rotor Force was built on the Decepticon Warworld by Bludgeon alongside the Laser Rods, as part of a new generation of warriors. Their first known mission was a raid on the rheanimum mines of Tykos, where they sliced and diced their way through the robotic factory guards. And then they stopped fighting to reattach their rotors, before running to catch up with everyone. New Dawn

The Rotor Force soon found themselves, along with the rest of Megatron's troops, allied with the Autobots against the Cybertronian Empire. Manta Ray and Leadfoot, along with Laser Rod Sizzle, fought next to Megatron himself in the battle for Ethos. Escalation!

As the alliance continued, Manta Ray and Leadfoot showed themselves to be quite comfortable working with the Autobots, to Razorclaw's displeasure. Total War! The two eventually considered themselves to be Autobots, to the point that Leadfoot had to save Manta Ray from a vengeful Razorclaw during the final assault of the Swarm. A Rage in Heaven!

They - can - changebeforeyoureyes
Into rotor shootin' guys
when they get into a battle, they be WINNIN'!
The Rotor Force toys were among the very first new molds in the Generation 2 toy line. Though fairly limited in articulation, they introduced several new alternate modes to the Transformers toyline, such as a twin-pontoon speed boat and a World War II-era fighter plane.
Each toy has a wind-up "engine" that, when activated, spins the detachable "rotor" disc at high speeds, sending the disc flying to some pretty impressive heights. Perfect for giving the cats something to chase. The engine assembly is fairly large, dominating the vehicle mode in most cases and being a bit unwieldy for the robot to handle.

Notes

[edit]
  • Each of the Rotor Force has an alternate mode that would normally have a propeller on it...except for Leadfoot, who just turns into a racecar with a giant rotor on top of it.
  • Though the Rotor Force were never released in Japan, each member did gain a Japanese name via a BotCon Japan 1997 exclusive poster, which featured bios for all of the new Generation 2 characters released in the U.S. who weren't part of the Japanese line: the Axelerators, the Skyscorchers, Rotor Force, four of the Go-Bots, and the Color Changers.
