Roy Harker was alerted early one morning to reports that Stansham Castle had been bombed by unknown jets. No one was injured, but one of the bombs had embedded itself in the earth, and needed to be excavated carefully in case it eventually detonated. To make a hard day even worse, Harker was informed at the castle that his son Sammy had taken ill, in a state of shock telling tales of a giant robot he encountered in the woods. That night, Roy told Sammy the story of the Man of Iron, who visited Stansham Castle three times in the past 900 years, and bore an eerie resemblance to Sammy's "robot" visitor.

Events soon escalated out of Roy Harker's control. The "second bomb" turned out to be something else entirely — a massive mechanical structure of unknown origin, roughly the size of an oceanliner under the castle. Her Majesty's special services were called in for analysis, only to reach the inescapable conclusion that the construct being excavated was extraterrestrial. Furthermore, Sammy was kidnapped by a car without a driver, a mind-boggling scenario witnessed by Harker's wife, sending her into a catatonic state.

And then...the Man of Iron arose from the fields of legend.

As awe-inspiring as the Man of Iron's appearance was, the appearance of a second Man of Iron literally from out of nowhere was beyond comprehension. As the two giant knights fought over Stansham Castle, Harker's struggling mind lept with joy when Sammy appeared on the scene, healthy and unharmed. War broke out in the skies over Stansham, and Roy Harker did his best to get his boy and his men to safety. In the aftermath, Harker did his best to piece his life back together, after it had been forever touched by these Men of Iron. Man of Iron
