Nyx goes up against Terrorsaur when the Maximals attempt to survey this strange new world, but neither side is aware that their arrival has provoked a mysterious group of aliens.
The atmosphere contains high concentrations of methane, carbon monoxide, and fluorine. Population approximately nine billion... all Preds.
On the Axalon's bridge, Rhinox studies the confusing data obtained from the ship's scanners and reaches a disturbing conclusion: nothing about this world's geography adds up. Deserts coexist with tundras, mountains float, and the deposits of extremely potent energon make no geological sense—none of this has any real impression on Rattrap, however, who's more interested in using his new beast mode to munch on some native fruit. Ignoring Rhinox's objections, Rattrap points out that it's much faster to use their new bodies to metabolize organic matter instead of processing the local energon into something usable... and neither of them is aware that they're being watched! From their own dimension, a trio of Vok observe the Maximals; while Pakak finds them intriguing, Tonrar fears the aliens will contaminate their careful experiments and advocates for their immediate destruction. By analyzing Rhinox's memories, Pakak determines the presence of a second group, and the trio materialize inside the crashed Darksyde to investigate the Predacons. Pakak wonders if the two groups might be rivals, but Tonrar argues that two warring factions will surely interfere with their plans. The debate comes down to Tikaani, who offers a compromise: they will monitor the two factions for the time being... but if their antics prove too disruptive, then the Vok will simply sterilize the planet and begin again. The matter settled, the three aliens return to their home dimension; Terrorsaur briefly glimpses the flash of light, but after a conversation with Scorponok, he writes it off as a sign of him going stir-crazy.
While Terrorsaur goes out to get some air on a recon mission, Scorponok pays Megatron a visit; since the crash, the Predacon leader has recused himself in his quarters, still completely engrossed in his efforts to decode the secret of the stolen Golden Disk. A computer programmer himself, Scorponok suggests that he could try—and Megatron angrily throttles his subordinate in response. Scorponok sputters that his fellow Predacons are growing restless, but Megatron hurls him against the wall and reminds him that they cannot attack until Tarantulas has finished surveying the terrain. Scorponok stalks off and vents his frustrations out on Waspinator by shouting at him to go conduct another reconnaissance sweep, oblivious to Waspinator's groans that he only just got back...
On the other side of the valley, Optimus Primal checks in with Nyx as she works on repairing the Axalon's hull. Although she's successfully boosted the ship's scanners to get a better picture of their immediate surroundings, the Maximals still don't know much about the rest of the planet, and Optimus suggests taking a break from repairs by using her new wings to scout out the area. Though Nyx is initially hesitant to leave her post, Primal gently reminds her that sometimes old-fashioned methods are the best, and so the Maximal flier gleefully transforms and takes to the sky.
Back at the Predacon base, Dinobot enters Tarantulas's makeshift lab to inquire about his progress in mapping the surrounding area, but discovers that the Predacon scientist has already shifted priorities to tackle a different conundrum. While Skold was calibrating some sensors, she accidentally scanned the ship first and detected inexplicable unspace energy signatures all over the Darksyde. This, Tarantulas asserts, is far more important than mere geography, but Dinobot doesn't share that opinion and orders him to abandon his research. Tarantulas snaps that Dinobot has no authority; there can be no chain of command on a ship full of rogues who follow Megatron so long as it is convenient. If Dinobot wants data, he can wait for Terrorsaur to return—and in the meantime, he can get out of Tarantulas's lab.
Out in the wilderness, Nyx takes in the sights and sounds of this strange new world as she gets the hang of her new beast mode. Weaving through floating mountains, swooping through jungles, and soaring with flocks of birds, she's taken by the planet's natural beauty, but when she tries to contact the Axalon she discovers that the ambient energon radiation has jammed all long-range communications. Worse yet, Nyx discovers that she's not the only Cybertronian out on patrol when Terrorsaur spies the little Maximal and divebombs her! Nyx's agile bat form lets her evade Terrorsaur's snapping beak until Terrorsaur transforms into robot mode and opens fire—when one of the shots nails her in the back, Terrorsaur transforms back into beast mode and catches her unconscious body in his talons...
As night falls, Megatron's many attempts to decrypt the disk have proven futile. When Terrorsaur arrives at his quarters, the interruption nearly pushes him over the edge, but the Predacon leader soon composes himself when he sees that Terrorsaur has brought the Predacons a prisoner: Nyx!
"You gotta try this. It's some kinda fruit, I think. That's the ones with the seeds, right?"

"What are you looking at?"
"Er... Wazzpinator was heading for rationzz-"
"You should be helping Tarantulas survey the area!"
"But Wazzpinator juzzt got back..."
—Scorponok and Waspinator
"Hey, Nyx! I think I figured out how get another two meters of energon shielding around the ship, I'll just need your help to—"
"She's not here, Cheetor."
"But my arm won't fit into that access panel."
"So let's go ask Rattrap."
"And get fruit garp in the circuits? It'd be better to crash again."
—Cheetor and Optimus Primal
"Missed again! Have you ever heard the definition of insanity? Trying the same thing and hoping for a different result? Come on."
"You know what? You're right. Luckily, I got other skills to fall back on."
Scorponok describes himself as one of the top codebreakers in Iacon. This line suggests a slight deviation from the postwar status quo in Beast Machines; as discussed in "The Search", the Iacon of that universe was abandoned during the Great Upgrade, and the city of Cybertropolis was constructed over its remains.
Rhinox flags up the planet's inconsistent geography; observing an image of a savannah and a snowy forest side-by-side, he notes the existence of "biomes that shouldn't coexist side-by-side". The original Beast Wars cartoon featured a similarly wonky setting; in several episodes ("Fallen Comrades", "The Trigger"), the characters were able to walk from a tropical jungle somewhere in eastern Africa to the icy Northern Sector in mere hours.
Rhinox is clearly angry about Rattrap eating food and his objection is that this is something they just don't do, even though they can: "we don't consume organics, we consume energon!" An odd outburst for BW Rhinox, but in Beast Machines Rhinox would be retconned as siding with the technological over the organic and being against any merger of the two.
The enigmatic Vok formed a major part of the original Beast Wars mythos: over the course of the show's first season, the shipwrecked Transformers gradually discovered more and more anomalous structures and artifacts scattered across the planet before finally contending with the Vok themselves in the season one finale when the aliens attempted to sterilize the planet using their powerful Planet Buster weapon. Much like the cartoon, the Vok inhabit an extradimensional realm and consider the mechanical visitors a threat to their mysterious "experiments" playing out on the planet. Unlike the show, however, these three Vok—Pakak, Tikaani, and Tonrar—possess individual names and personalities.
Scorponok mentions that he's one of the top codebreakers in Iacon. Although his cartoon counterpart did once engineer a computer virus in the episode "Gorilla Warfare", this trait probably owes more to the Beast Wars: Uprising prose stories, which depicted him as a talented computer programmer.
While conducting aerial reconnaissance, Nyx discovers that the planet's abundant energon radiation has severely reduced the range of her communications system. The Beast Warriors faced this problem quite often in early season one, most prominently during "The Web".
Page nineteen features the return of Megatron's Rubber Ducky. The Predacon commander was awfully fond of this squeaky toy in the original cartoon, and his bathtime companion made several prominent appearances during the cartoon's third season.
Although a flying mountain of raw energon featured prominently in the Beast Wars episode "Power Surge", this comic depicts an entire "range" of floating mountains. Unlike the barren landmass in the cartoon, these mountains feature ample greenery, dangling vines, and waterfalls pouring off of their slopes—in fact, they probably owe something to [[wikipedia:{{#if:|:}}Avatar (2009 film)|{{#if:Avatar's|Avatar's|Avatar (2009 film)}}]]airborne landscape.
As Nyx evades Terrorsaur, she defines his insanity as "trying the same thing and hoping for a different result", a famous quote that's usually misattributed to Albert Einstein.
