[edit]In the early days of the Great War, Optimus Prime formulated a plan to use shatter bombs to end Megatron's threat. After countless raids to search for shatter bombs, Optimus had Bluestreak and Fusion transport a cargo of shatter bombs. They were attacked by Decepticons en route; Bluestreak made it back to the Autobots while Fusion did not.
While a battle with Megatron's Decepticons on an expressway was ongoing, Gears and his Autobot comrades affixed shatter bombs to the bridge's weakened support columns. While Optimus Prime feigned an immobilizing injury to keep Megatron still, Gears activated the bombs, sending the bridge crashing down and burying Megatron and his Decepticons. Windcharger's magnetic abilities managed to save Optimus just in the nick of time.
However, after the Autobots left the scene, Megatron emerged from the rubble and swore to destroy Optimus Prime. And There Shall Come...a Leader!

Fifty stellar cycles later, Starscream boasted to the Autobots of what he'd done, much to Megatron's rage. Transform and Roll Out Home Is Where the Spark Is
To try and destroy all his enemies in one fell swoop, Starscream implanted remotely activated shatter bombs within two clones only for them to be sent into the upper atmosphere where they detonated without any loss of life. A Fistful of Energon Nonetheless, he felt the trick was worth a revisit and implanted large scale shatter bombs within the Starscream Supremes that would destroy Megatron once and for all (along with any unfortunate human or Autobot within a 500-mile radius). One bomb was deactivated by Omega Supreme while the other detonated within a sphere of AllSpark energy, doing no damage to Detroit. It also failed to kill Megatron. Endgame, Part II
