Sheila Cranna

Sheila Cranna is a British comics editor who served as the very first editor of the British edition of the Marvel Generation 1 comic, from issues #1 to #21. During her tenure, she commissioned the first UK originated stories to meet the title's need for more material than the US reprints could supply. While Alan McKenzie brought in the earliest creators, it was Cranna who brought in Mike Collins and then was responsible for introducing Simon Furman to the world of the Transformers.<ref>The Transformers Classics UK Volume 1 page 12</ref> She met Furman via Ian Rimmer, a co-worker from her IPC days who she was responsible for getting hired at Marvel UK.<ref>The Transformers Classics UK Volume 1 page 13</ref>

Cranna had little empathy for the characters, and in mid 1985 willingly ceded the editorial chair to Rimmer.<ref>Unknown author "Transformers UK" in Second Generation [Trade paperback] (London; Titan Books, 2004), page 5.</ref> In line with most comics of the time, she'd aimed for a 'generalist' approach (as seen with text features about general robotics etc.), while Rimmer would decide to focus specifically on Transformers.<ref>The Transformers Classics UK Volume 1, page 14</ref>

She created the first Transformers annual and edited the second. While she had hoped to reprint American text stories to save money, rights issues prevented her, so she went looking for Furman to write replacement. When she didn't find him in the office, she ended up asking Richard Starkings (who she did find) if he knew someone who could do it.<ref>The Transformers Classics UK Volume 1, page 16</ref>

As well as Transformers, Cranna has worked on many other titles, including Doctor Who Magazine between 1985 and 1988.
